Finally, I received my PhD-degree in computer science ...

... last friday (in particular in "Information Security & Cryptography").

It was a lot of hard work over the last 3 years! My thesis' title is

"Collision-Free Number Generation: Efficient Constructions, Privacy Issues, and Cryptographic Aspects",

226 pages, writting in English.

In Austria the PhD-degree is called "Dr.techn." for those of you who wanna know that.

You might ask why I'm writing this here on the msgboard? There is a simple reason for that:
after the academic ceremony my family gave me a nice present: the VIRGIL DONATI SIGNATURE SNARE DRUM.

That was the best present they could have given to me!! I'm very happy now (about both the PhD-degree and the snare drum ).

Cheers,
Martin

Seriously, good job finishing your PhD. I'm only on my way towards bachelor in Danish with digital communication and aestethics...

Cheers!

Thanks a lot for your congrats!

The snare drum sounds excellent! Soon I hope to buy
a new drum kit. I thought to buy the Pearl
Reference kit, but I'm not sure yet since we have
no serious drum store here where I can test it.

Any other suggestions concerning a new drum kit?

@Bryce.bc

Thanks for your interest.

The last four years I mainly focused on
fundamental research in IT-security and
cryptography. Thereby, I spent most of the time
on developping new techniques
from theory point of view, i.e. I concentrated
on algebra.

My dream job would be to remain in the research
area, but it is hard to get a job there (especially locally).
Moreover, the money you earn is not as much
as one might think. If you remain at the
University you can (more or less) research whatever
you want, but the money is not very much
except if you are a full professor. For the
latter I'm too unexperienced yet .

My current main problem is that I want
to return to my home city, where my wife
lives in our flat. But the job situation
(for research) there is questionable. I'm
currently working in a town which is 150km
away from my wife. So I meet here only on
weekends . So it's time to go back.

If I get no research job I'm forced
to enter the industry as a security specialist.
