Michael Angelo Batio (Check this guy out!!!)
Hey guys,
you gotta see this dude play guitar....it's one of the more impressive things I've ever seen....I actually saw this guy at a clinic a few months back and I couldn't believe my eyes....the guy is a complete freak when it comes to playing the guitar....he was actually voted the "#1 fastest shredder of all time" by guitar magazine....even though he plays guitar, I think you guys should give him the benefit of the doubt and watch this video clip: http://www.angelo.com/speed_lives_mab.wmv |

Haven't we been hearing MacAlpine and Petrucci playing that sorta thing as well?
![]() I think when you get to the level of those guys, there is no fastest. They're all 'damn fast, and definitely fast enough' |

Isnt this Michael Angelo from that 80's band Nitro? He's known for his speed and that quadruple neck guitar that he carries around. I remember reading about it a while back.
Im not sure if it's him though.

Yup that's him Christopher....Like I said I saw him at a clinic this past summer and it was insane.....he didn't play the quadruple neck guitar, but he played his own double neck that is shaped like a "V".....if you guys wanna see a picture you can see them on his website http://www.angelo.com (it's not like your normal double neck guitar, it's his own invention and basically it is what he is known for)....anyways, when he plays this double neck, it's crazy.....he is completely ambidextrous (kinda like Mangini) and he can shred like a madman with both hands.....he can even shred with both hands simultaneously so it like two seperate guitar solos going on at once....or he can play rhythms with one hand and solo over top with the other hand....you gotta see it to believe it....and then he does that crazy flipping his hand over the neck kinda thing that he does in that video I posted.....the guys is crazy
and he isn't only about speed....at the clinic he played a bunch of slower stuff too....even played some blues and jazz, so the guy is versatile.....and he also has a degree in music....so he knows his stuff.... plus, kinda like mangini, the guy is an absolute riot....he is hilarious (his look kinda helps.....the guy looks like he is stuck in the 80's....I was laughing my head off when he first came out for the clinic because of the way he looked).....great showman, killer guitar player, what more can you ask for????? |

So if that's him, I know that he's made a real name for himself when he released a very informative instructional video that even some of the best guitarists today have praised.
Players like Dimebag, Petrucci, Tom Morello and more. I still love his haircut. I bet that style will come back in the next 5 years. ![]()

Now that you mention that instructional video, I remember him talking about it at his clinic....he said that basically he was the first guy to make a video strictly dedicated to speed and being able to play like lightening....he said that for a bunch of years he studied all the fastest players in the world and took note of certain things that they all did and certain things they all had in common technically, and then released that instructional video explaing the finer points of being able to shred....

I have seen a number of guitar players
play through the years but there's not been anything like Alan Holdsworth yet, in my book and that was in the 1970's.

Like always - it's mostly a question of style and personal taste. Speed is a cornerstone in Angelo's style and speed is not subjective. Angelo is definately the fastest I've ever seen/heard - that you have got to give him.

Wow he is fast BUT as far as sweep I think Gambale is WAY! better. As Vai has said if you want to talk about sweep picking do not talk to me talk to the Man "Frank." I have seen nobody sweep with the speed, fluidity, the creativity the pure ease as Frank Gambale. And yes I have seen no one else play as Allan Holdsworth plays. He is truly one of a kind. His compositions his phrasing his fingerings like no one I have ever seen. He is like Coltrane and Parker on the guitar. Even Gambale has said when I hear Allan play it makes me sound like I am just learning to play still. Holdsworth is Genius for sure.

You guys want shred, and nothing but, check out Rusty Cooley, hes he fastest i have seen, and in every technique, sweeping, tapping, sweep tapping hehe, legato, picking, check out www.rustycooley.com, or if you are interested in fast players, www.chopsfromhell.com has nothing but, but as far as speed is concerned Fustys the man, as far as style and phrasing, go VAI!
But i think the coolest sweep picker is Frank, he has great ideas!! ![]()

Oh. I forgot. If you have only seen/heard Michael Angelo on that videoclip in the beginning of the thread, you have no idea what he is capable of. Go to www.angelo.com, find the mp3-section and check out the clip from the song "Time Traveler". That's the stuff!
