Is there a feud between Sabian and Zildjain?

I saw this on the Dream Theater forum ...

"The Sabian company was founded in 1981 in Meductic, New Brunswick, Canada by Robert Zildjian, son of Avedis Zildjian III, the head of the Avedis Zildjian Company.
Family tradition had it that the head of the company would only pass its secrets down to the oldest son, but Avedis III gave the information to both of his sons, Armand and Robert.
This led to a family feud and a legal squabble, resulting in Robert leaving Zildjian to form the rival Sabian company.

The settlement gave Robert the Canadian factory that at that time produced 40% of the production of the Avedis Zildjian Company, and most notably the entire K Zildjian line, all manufacturing in Turkey having ceased by this time. However he agreed not to use the Zildjian name or to claim that his cymbals were the same."

Does anyone have anymore info on this? It was the first time that I'd heard it, and it seems quite interesting. I would never have guessed there was anything like this.

My question is to anyone who knows, is there still a feud between the families/companies? Do they get on generally speaking, or are there big fights at Namm for example?!

I've got a big article on this in one of my "Batteur Magazine" issues, where they interview Rob.

From what is said, there are no big fights, but the two brothers do not get on. More precisley, Rob is willing to make a truce with his brother, but Mr. Zildjian does not want to hear about him.

It's probably one of those marketing scams so the family can dominate the entire market by creating the illusion of competition...keeps prices high. Then again what i've just said could be total bull!

Considering Paiste and UFIP are more expensive, I doubt that's true .

I highly doubt that being true. Otherwise the whole document in the mag was totally made up...
