Curious where to find certain Virgil music
Pardon me if some of this is obvious stuff but I am still quite Virgil music retarded.
Has War of Fictions and Slaves appeared on any albums? Also, have there been any releases from The Virgil Donati Band? I love the music in videos on this website and I would love to know if they have been recorded apart from the live setting. |

yeah, get live at the grainstore! incredible jazz fusion. one of my favourite cds.
as for the virgil donati band, i'm fairly sure there hasn't been a release. the lineup changes, for the oz tour it was T-Mac and Steve Weingart, but for some baked potato gigs virg has played with a sax player. brandon fields i think. virgil's band played songs from his forthcoming album, Tony Macalpine's album and Steve Weingart's album as well, rather than stuff they had actually written themselves as a band. not sure about war of fictions, perhaps an older virgil fan will help with this. |

War of Fictions is only on the Obssesive Rhythms vid as far as i know. There are a good couple of older tracks that never appeared in audio format if you get me (Virtue or Reality and Origin and the End for example on the MD 97 vid).
As for the VD band, the other musicians never seem to contribute significantly to the concept/project, rather just play Virgil's music. That's normal for that type of band name though. We should hear some cool stuff on the next solo CD! ![]()

I reckon Tony Mac is the best guitarist ever to happen to Virgil! It'd be good to see more of him, pity he's not in PX anymore!
I haven't heard War of Fictions . |

I reckon the stuff with Brett Garsed (I know Kirk is backing me here) and TJ is REALLY cool, and Simon Hosford is amazing as well. I think TMAC is a bit of a one-trick-pony to me. Not saying he isn't an amazing musician. HE IS.

Tony's the man too... I went to a Vai concert and he stole the show IMO (along with Billy Sheehan)

Tony MacAlpine is the man..
I've seen him play live with Virgil and Philip Bynoe, and he was playing guitar and keyboard at the same time...!! The guy is one of the best guitarist of all time, and at the same time a piano virtuoso!! He can play ALL chopin songs by memory! I dare to state that Tony MacAlpine is a better piano player than Derek Sherinian, technically spoken. And his guitar stuff is sooo f*cking sweet! His solo on the Life from Oz album is one of the best things I've ever heard. It's a shame that he left PX, though I too am VERY eager to hear Allan Holdsworth with PX. I think Allan hates PX fans, or maybe the entire human race.. I mean, HURRY UP! Really, I don't like waiting THAT long. (It'll probably be worth the wait.) |

I think Wankmaster Joe means Borders the book/music store. I'd be surprised if there was any Planet X in Borders. I was surprised to see quite a bit of T-Mac's cds and CAB cds in Virgin Megastore.
