my new ambidex setup

i added some drums to my already bad ass drumkit.... and was going for a perfectly mirrored kit.... this is allowing me to think left handed alot more.... and my left side is improving by the day!

i have 2 hats ...one on each side...one of them consists of 2 paiste accent cymbals....gives a real particular choke sound and is great for riding or blasting on..... 2 rides (sabian 22" rock ride and a ghetto solar 20 ") and chinas (zildjian 20" and 2 wujans 14" & 16") on each side aswell....making it more motivating to play open handed...which i do now full time....2 sabian crashes on top of my toms (X2 and virg signature series) with a meinl crash in between both sabians.... one floor tom to my right and left... and one mounted also to my left.... practicing alot of those virg crossovers now

heres some pics

PS. dont be jealous of my bad ass gong....

That's a sweet set up man. I'm sure it'd be awesome to mess around on. Make things very interesting indeed!

The ambidex kit setup is interesting.. I thought about doing the same thing some time ago but figured it would be better for me to practice my right side better than my left side since right is far from perfect.

I once saw a show from Level42 (with Mark King on the bass-guitar -> excellent!), and the drummer had some sort of ambidex setup too, and he played several songs with left and with right hand lead. It was really cool to watch, because both sides were equally fast and groovy and blabla.. he was good!

Frank - The level 42 drummer you´re mentioning is Gary Husband - Check his stuff with Allan Holdsworth - they did a bunch of albuns togheter, and Gary is BY FAR one of the most musical, imaginative drummers out there.

He´s not Minnemann, Lang or Virgil - he´s different. The way he interacts with Allan is incredible, and, to me, that´s what music is all about - there´s so much soul in what he plays on those records, it´s quite remarkable.

Get I.O.U, Atavachron, Sand, Wardenclyffe Tower (I hope this one will make you read about Tesla as well), Hard Hat Area and maybe Gary´s video, Interplay and Improvisation on the Drums.

Gary is also an accomplished piano player (he leads a trio ON PIANO!). Try to get the Force Majeure DVD recently out - I haven´t seen that one.

Gary sometimes posts at Steve Holmes´ forum - www.houseofdrumming.com
