Controversy! (not really) - Question for Christopher

Just a quick question,
When watching the Live at the Astoria DVD, it looked like Virgil was playing Zildjian sticks. I freeze framed at a good shot of him and his stick bag up close, and sure enough, he was playing Zildjian sticks. Was this a Vater stuff up or some thing else?

Just curious

I've noticed that too. The DVD was shot in 2001, so I figured he didn't use Vater drum sticks.

Maybe Vater couldn't get his sticks to him and so he had to use something else...

When I saw him with Vai in Vienna, he had some of his sticks (probably Assault) drilled a bit. Now that's odd. It was three holes approx. at the pivot point. Don't know why would that be good for.

zildjian company may be is trying a little courtship at virgil
so he would shift to them thus giving him some supply of sticks.
hehe, why not as long it's free.

Virgil was playing Vater.

This came up a long time ago, and I asked if people could tell me excactly where they froze the DVD. I have it, and went meticulously (spello) through it. Didn't find anything else but Vater, Vater, Vater.

There is no obsession dudes, don't think we spend our lives checking that detail out. Ultimately, I don't care what sticks Virgil used on those two nights, he played a hell of a show and revived the essence of Steve's Passion and Warefare album. Go Virg go!!

Many people obsessed with Virgil or any other drumming great are phenomenal players themselves.

The obsession over certain players stems from an obsession over the instrument they play, which is the IMO only way to achieve mastery over it.

One of the steps of mastering something, by the way, is emulating your influences, and the best of the best. It's one of the most efficient ways to learn new material.
