Clinic with Marco and Virgil in L.A.

Well guys, I have been fortunate to see 2 great drummers in action in just 2 days. This thursday I saw Marco Minneman at West L.A. music. It was incredible, Marco really pushes his ability on the drums. He played 2-3 songs which I thought where hip and fresh music, and he played solos over them too. Then he played a (at least) 20minute drum solo, in which he played all his trademark things, fast drum & bass grooves, interdependence stuff. One cool thing he did was playing a 9figure in the feet with a snare drum on his left foot and bassdrum which formed a groove, and then he played some 3,5,7 figures over them. He even played quintuplets and septuplets over the 9 which I thought were really cool!
I actually caught most of this on my camcorder, but, this guy from chile (or something) told me stop or he would take my camera. Soooooo, I stopped
Afterwards he signed autographs and I got a picture with him, which I post here too. A great night but unfortunally I paid at least $45 for taxi. Gotta learn to use the metrolines in L.A.

Well, earlier today I saw Virgil at the Vintage Drum shop in north hollywood. Just the trip there took me 2hours with metro train and bus, so I missed the Gary Novak clinic which I really wanted too se. I waited an hour and half for Virgils clinic watching cool drums and stuff, and I get so tired of all these kids playing as fast and as loud as they can, just to trying to impress each other. I didn´t here a normal, steady groove anywhere I went

Well, Virgil showed his new drumsetup with two toms up in the sky which was really cool. He opened with a 20-30minute drumsolo which wasn´t the best I heard with him, but it was great anyway. He played some interdependence stuff, and almost all his trademarks Double strokes etc.

He handled out the rhytmic factor sheet which I already had seen him do in Berlin last year, so it wasn´t anything new to me but it was surely appreciated amongst the others! The he took some questions and that was it I hoped for him to play along to some planet x tunes or so, but there wasn´t any time for that. I guess people have to get to the baked potatoe the 14oct ( I will ) and see him play with his own band.

Also there was this chick that was sooooooo fine and hot going around and selling tickets for some give-aways. Wow, she almost made my eyes go away from Virgils drumming, but only almost

Well, so far I really enjoy my visit here in L.A. I´ve seen so much great music, and much more to come.

Take care guys, hope to meet some of you guys in L.A.
/ Jonathan

Thats awesome Jonberg. Glad to hear youre having a great time.

That kit that you saw Virgil play on is the same kit that will be shown on the next batch of Masterclasses here. Or at least I hope it's the one Im talking about because the color is exactly that. It's the masters custom prototype that he's got.

Thanks for your writeup. It's always great to hear from you.

Jonberg, you are a very very lucky man!!! Cool review, and after meeting so many of the top drummers i bet you have no shortage of inspiration when you play yourself!

Sounds awesome man. As a matter of fact.. Marco is wearing the exact same shirt in that picture that he was in the Tulsa clinic. It's probably smelly
