How would you define virgil's sound ?

Even this simple detail I find is hard to explain. The thing is, he is so tight in his playing, every hit is so precise. Yet he does not sound like a drum machine, like most drummers in the metal scene would (I'm not sayin' Virg is part of that since he plays about evreything you can play).

So what do you think ?

I know one thing. Virg is going to let his ability be the factor in determining the the quality of his sound NOT studio gimmicks. Too many guy's clean up their performance with studio garb. It is one thing to have your performance recorded and produced in a right manner. But some guy's go beyond that
and use little tool's to hide mistakes and they come out with a sterile machined sound. With Virg and others it is either RIGHT or nothing till it is right.

Actually one thing I was very disappointed with was the Mark Boals record called Ring Of Fire. (which led to the band by the same name!)

Virgil mentions this himself someplace... his bassdrums are triggered afterwords in the production, and this totally blows his dynamics out of the picture. A damn shame.
Virgil has a stroke and execution thats makes it easy to recognize him, even though he is just "banging toms" at a soundcheck.
