Whats up guys. I am looking for a new double pedal for my kit and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. I'm looking hard at a DW 9002, but i really haven't tried any others like Axis or Pearl. Any help or personal experiences would be most helpful.

Type in Axis and Pearl Eliminator in the Search and
read the related threads. There is a lot of info.

I still think the Axis Longboard A's are the best pedals
I have played but you should try them all, side by
side, BEFORE you buy them.

Also, next year, the new Boa Pedals will be out and
I have to try them. These are from DW.

The action is what matters. This is a serious purchase
you are going to make. Don't be in a rush. Doubles are
key. Work them all and don't leave out the Iron Cobra,
which many find to have wonderful action.

Cams make the difference. The Eliminator, especially
with the new purple and yellow cams, have a great
deal to offer.

Make the effort. It will be worth it.

Thanks for the info, Peter. The only problem is that there are no places around where i live, so i can't try them out side by side. Even at the nearest guitar center (about an hour away) they don't seem to have a large selection of pedals. Anyone from North Carolina who knows where to go shoping for pedals?

By the way, those BOA pedals look pretty sweet!

My personal choice is/are the Axis "A" Longboard double pedals.

So the axis "A" longboards keep coming up. Can anyone compare those with the DW 9002?

I have dw 9002 doublepedals and I like them. There are plenty of possibilities and options and they seem to be very sturdy.

I can.

The action on the Longboard is smoother,
in my opinion. The DW9K has a neat idea,
with it's Universal Cam but the range of
adjustment is just not wide enough, es-
pecially of the radical action.

I much prefer the Axis-A. I love the Long-
board concept, allowing us much more
footboard to work with. It also gives the
pedal a response very similar to the old
Speed-Kings, where the heel helped to
trigger beater pullback.

I have said it before. The best pedal, for
the money, is the Eliminator. It is versat-
ile, offering a radical cam, now in blue,
purple and red, which is essential, in
my opinion.

However, when you have the money to
spare, the Axis-A is the choice.

Axis-A!!! And it's thanks to Pete my old bud, who suggested me to try them out.
Just remember tht it has to have the Verial Drive Lever. I like the VDL to in the highest position. That is, all the way out towards the batterhead of the bassdrum. And I have pretty loose springtension.

Tell me, what kind of double-kick drummer
are you - a singles OR doubles player OR are
you both?

How do you find the action for your doubles,
with the VDL in all the way, as you described?

Mind you, the Boa (Gatzen) pedal has
not come out and it may really shake
up the pedal world, with its apparent
universal cam but these are not going
to be out until 2005.

With the price at the DW5K range, it
makes you think about waiting, though.

One of the things I hate about the DW
design is that footboard. The same is
true of the Tama. The heel is TOO BIG.

The Eliminator smooths out. That's nice.
Of course, the Longboard is no issue,
that sleek lady, a comfort!

The problem with axis pedals here in Finland where I live is that they are so damn expensive. How much do you guys have to pay for them(where ever you live)? Here in Finland the price for a doublepedal is somewhere between 800-1000 euros(almost the same as american $).

@ Peter,
I use both with good technique. I use heel up (well actually quite the same sort of technique as Virg). I pendle between using double/single pedal depending on wht I play. If you study the "Virg type of technique" you develop good single technique because of all the complex figures & the fact that your using doubles between your feet, instead of the normal doule bass playing where it's only used for pounding fast singles which is not too hard.
I use the VDL in the lightest position, meaning it's all the way down. The best action but with the least rebound. I almost 'jump' with my feet on it and when I would play fast, I slide up the pedalboard feeling like in not even touching the pedal, although my toes are resting on the board the whole time, actually. I angle the foot downwards and for every stroke I use a very small motion, which gets powerful anyway because of the 'accelerating' action the pedal has, reacting strong on even the smallest motion. I just move my wrist a little and the stroke comes. I play dobles in the middle of the board sliding a little with my heel up.

I answer these posts because the pedals
have become so important to me, since I
have come to know Virgil. You see, I'm
still new to the concept too.

Yes, they ARE expensive and that sucks.
I don't usually talk about it but being an
analyst gives me the inside view on the
exchange rate and yes, you are right -
with the rates as they are now, it's so
hard for our European brothers to get
along. It's just ridiculous!

My advice is to use Eliminators, with red
and blue cams, until you can get these
rates under control BUT see if these Boa
pedals don't provide us with a real alter-
native. The design looks as though it offers
a universal cam. We will see. I hope things
change. I am also hoping that we see a
new direct-drive pedal from Pearl but I
have not heard anything yet.
