Need help with footwear.

Hey guys,

When i play double stroke rolls at 240bpm i tend to lose grip and slip on the second stroke olny if i wear thin socks. when i make the initial stroke i tend to raise my heel as high as it will go. Does this affect grip and can you guys recomend some footwear to me. It has to be a thin sole.

Virgil uses either the Puma or the Addidas racing shoes. So fi you're ready spent the money, try those out...

Old-school Converse Chucks. I personally prefer the all-black "Monochrome" model.

i'm confused over footwear .... i read article with zoro in modern drummer who said footwear is vitally important to get right etc. i then read drum! mag where thomas lang said it doesn't matter, you should be able to play anything with any shoes etc.

its a completely personal matter obviously, i like playing bare foot or thin shoes.

Bozzio plays in Doc Martens, so Lang must be right.

I use Bunker racing shoes (monza model)
or Asics tigers. On TUDW Virg used some asics wrestling shoes, don't know the model.
Here you can see the pumas he has been using steadily.

shoes finally identified!!

Hey everyone, After much research the shoes that we've all seen virgil and lang wearing are 2003 puma SPEED CATS!! Lang wears the leather ones (VERY hard to find and big $ when you do) Virgil wear the same in suede, which are 2004 models. I must say I've been playing 23 years and shoes do make a HUGE difference, I have always used black DEXTER wingtips (old fart shoes for old fart like me) But have switched to the speed cats. Beware, pumas seem to run 1 size smaller. by the way GIANT STEPS RULE!!

Ok wearing a pair of shoes that a pro wears wont necessarily make you play like a pro. Drumming isnt about doing everything your drum idol does, its about self-motivation. Find a fine pair of footware thats good for you, afterall YOU are the one playing in them...

In the Lang clinic I went to someone asked how he got so fast and he said "it's all in the shoes." heh heh heh
I wear an old (red!) pair of Nike's.
Pcannon, I bought the Giant steps Lang used in clinic! They're awesome all right.
