First song you played

Hey, remember the first song you played? but even more so.. remember how hard it was back then and how easy it is now?
the first song I learned to play was parachutes by coldplay so I guess that Will champion and his drum part will always hold a special place in my heart long live first steps and long life progress

D.W.A. 03-18-2005 04:55 PM

i think the first tune i ''practiced with''...rock of ages - def leppard (pyromania)

the scottster 03-18-2005 05:47 PM

I think it was Californicatio by red hot chili peppers. either that or daughter by pearl jam. I thought i was king of the world when i played them.

Images&Words 03-18-2005 06:04 PM

blue monday hahah those were the days

Dillinger 03-18-2005 06:43 PM

Anthem For The Year 2000 - Silverchair haha, and boy was that a complex bit of music back then.

drummaman1 03-18-2005 06:48 PM

Scorpions - Big City Nights

Oh yeah! Playing to ze germans, oh yah!

cjcdrums 03-18-2005 07:23 PM

let's see... the first song I tried to play was "Toxicity", by System Of A Down. Took me forever before I was "good" enough to play that. Some of my other first achevements:
my first ghost notes with RHCP "Californication", stupidly easy 3:2 polyrhythm with RHCP "By The Way", first jungle toms rhythm was "Chop Suey". At the time that crap was hard!

vdreignsuponus1 03-18-2005 09:50 PM

heh, well, i had learned to play a lot of pieces of songs. some iron maiden, slayer (man i freaked out when i learned the war ensemble solo), but the first song i probably played all the way through was metallica's seek and destroy..

lars ulrich..wtf do u expect?!

KarnEvil 03-18-2005 09:52 PM

black sabbath - symptom of the universe

I really "improvised" during that solo part.

Matthias 03-19-2005 01:49 AM

Some songs by Die Toten Hosen, famous German punk band :D . That was some time ago...!!

DavidPartay 03-19-2005 02:44 AM

Chickmagnet or Middlename by Mxpx. I can't remember which. Although I suppose that was after playing church songs for a few months. The hardest thing I can remember learning to do was 16th note doubles with my right foot while playing 8th note beats. Those were the days!

Not that I'd go back, by any means!!!

electrizer 03-19-2005 03:11 AM

i suppose it was Faith no More - Midlife Crisis ;)

frank 03-19-2005 03:20 AM

The first song I played was Dream Theater - A Change of Seasons.
At first I thought it was so hard to play, but when you study a bit, it's quite playable.

"System of a down - toxicity" is a good one! I often play that song with my mp3-player..! You can do a lot of sick crap during all those fills!

jimi 03-19-2005 04:24 AM

Nirvana with pots, pans and chopsticks :D

pcannon 03-19-2005 05:33 AM

Metallica - Sad but true !!! :D

C.J. 03-20-2005 02:13 AM

Your gonna laugh at this one but, the first song I ever played was the Japanese intro to Drangon Ball Z "Cha la head cha la" on a junior kit.

Protactinum 03-20-2005 07:11 AM

That opening drum beat to Scentless Apprentice by Nirvana was intriguing. So I decided to learn that. I was into Nirvana and Metallica when I started playing around '94 or '95.

Espen 03-20-2005 11:41 AM

I cant remeber exactly but it was deffinitly a Green Day song at my first rehersal my the gitarist of my band, years later he still tells me that after that day he never can hear as good with his ears. lol Well now (about ten years later) this is what that day turned in to. Our band www.justicetonight.com (the stuff you can download from there is old and do not represent my playing any moore)

Espen (lord volt)

mtgarrett 03-22-2005 01:04 PM

Zappa's Black Page ??

I'd been air drumming Kiss tunes, forever, so I'm sure it must have been a Kiss tune that I attempted when I actually got a real (real piece o' sh**) kit.

mikkeydee 03-22-2005 05:19 PM

it was "breed" from Nirvana... I played in 1999

cjcdrums 03-22-2005 05:48 PM

Hmm.. So you're saying that you could do the stick-clicking of Pwitl in your beginning-periode..?! That's insane and I find if very hard to believe! I've been playing drums for 4 years now, and recently have figured out how to do the clicking, and I find it very hard to master...

You speak of mastering that clicking as a nostalgia..! Like: "Yeah, I played that ages ago..!"

Are you such a big talent or am I such a loser? :)

Drumblast 04-15-2005 09:27 PM
