Hi everybody!

Just wanted to share the latest news with you:

http://www1.scoopthis.com/411/met_uf/stc_met_uf_mtv.htm

Is this far out or what?
If you ask me, Lars should be sued for impersonating a drummer, using licks that are normally associated with real drumming.

These guys have too much spare time. It's beyond me why they don't spend it on practice, considering how bad they suck!

Unfortunately, I do believe since Metallica already overreacted grossly in the Napster-case.

I [I]really even don't no where to begin to explain the stupidity of such a claim...no, really I can't and that's saying a lot

OK people, this turns out to be a hoax since the scoopthis-domain is owned by Erik Ashley himself (see http://www.nesscis.nl/cgi-bin/whois.pl?scoopthis.com ) :-)

The news item on the Metallica website is actually on the scoopthis-site itself...

Hopefully Metallica doesn't get any funny ideas now...

FEDE!!!! I TOTALLY AGREE. LARS CAN SUCK VIRGILS ASS. ANDEVEN IF HE DID HE WOULD NEVER START GRASPING THE CONCEPTS OF "SOLIDITY" OR "CONTROL" HE'S AN INSULT TO THE WORD "DRUMMING" IT'S SAD THAT PEOPLE PRAISE THAT JOKE OF A "MUSICAN" AND IF YOUR READING THIS VIRGIL THAN IM SORRY FOR BRINGING A NEGATIVE ENERGY TO YOUR MESSAGE BOARD BUT IT SICKENS ME WHEN FOOLS SAY THAT LARS ULRICH IS THE BEST DRUMMER IN THE WORLD. ITS ALL OUT OF MY LOVE A DEDICATION TO YOU NTHAT I EXPRESS MY VOICE. RYTHM TROLL

@rythmtroll: it seems that your Capslock is just that: locked for caps ! Stop shouting, dude...

Anyway, why the sudden Lars Ullrich-bashing, again?! Be glad if he's actually trying to drum instead of starting law suits...

Lars Ullrich really isn't that bad, he's just not in the same league (or even the same league as Portnoy) as Virgil, but hey: aren't we all (not in the same league, i.e.)

There are alot of drummers out who aren't in the same league as Virgil. Weckl etc etc but unfortunately drummers will get voted to be the best because of the fact that the band they're in happens to be popular.

I'm not going to start bashing drummers but some of the "metal" drummers that have been mentioned here are actually quite bad!! On the albums they sound good but I've heard them live and MAN, their time is all over the place!!! No use have good chops when you waiver on the tempo especially on the fills (almost as if they get excited to hit every Tom that they speed up).

Learn to play straight and consistant then go for the chops.

Lars and Metallica will do anything to make more money...they should go back to making shit rock like load and reload and leave all of us who like good metal alone. Their latest album is a pathetic attempt to win back old fans and live they don't cut it at all, especially lars, he really struggles with his fast double bass work, it really drags. Give up Lars, go home back to your coke problem!
I apologise for this, but i am fuming at them, and if i had somewhere i could tell lars exactly what i think of him, i would! He's a disgrace to drummers out there. Next metallica will tell us we cant use distortion in music without them suing any band that does. Get a fucking life Metallica, you has-beens!

"It's just a matter of a band having the right to protect the chords it uses. I couldn't start up my own soft drink company using the exact same formula as Coca-Cola." — Jill Pietrini, Metallica's lawyer

MONTREAL — Metallica are taking legal action against independant Canadian rock band Unfaith over what they feel is unsanctioned usage of two chords the band has been using since 1982 : E and F.

"People are going to get on our case again for this, but try to see it from our point of view just once," stated Metallica's Lars Ulrich. "We're not saying we own those two chords, individually - that would be ridiculous. We're just saying that in that specific order, people have grown to associate E, F with our music."

Metallica filed a trademark infringement suit against the indie group at the US district court for central California on Monday. According to the drummer, the continued use of the two chords causes "confusion, deception and mistake in the minds of the public".

Metallica's lawyer, Jill Pietrini, told us that the band decided to take legal action only after first sending a letter of complaint to the Canadian band's singer/songwriter, Erik Ashley.

"We sent a demand letter and haven't reached a resolution, so we had to sue," she said. "They continue to shamelessly feature the two chords on their website song samples and we just can't have that."

Ashley, in the meantime, is still shocked by the entire story, and hasn't yet decided how the band will respond.

"I thought it was a prank at first," he told us. "Now I'm not sure what to think."

Ulrich states that he's not trying to prevent Unfaith from using the two chords, only that he feels Metallica should be credited for them whenever used, and is calling for 50% of all revenue generated from any song using them.

"It's nothing personal against them," he added. "We intend to enforce our rights with any band intending to use Metallica-branded chords in the future."

This marks the first time anything of this kind has ever been tried in court, and it will be interesting to see how things develop.

Metallica's website has issued an official statement on the suit here.

Unfaith's official website hasn't officially responded at print time.
