Hey Virgil, have a question about your Trad. left hand technique

Hey,

I have two questions I was hoping you could answer for me:

1. As a general rule, is your index finger and thumb touching all the time in your left hand? I'm a big traditional grip player myself and I find often times when playing heavy backbeat-oriented music I move the index and middle finger off of the stick and use mainly my thumb. What is your thoughts on this?

2. Do incorporate left hand finger control if, for an example, your playing continous rapid 16th notes on the left hand or do still strive to use wrist.

Thanks again virgil, just looking for your breakdown of the traditional grip and how you optimize it.
