This direct drive pedal will be launched at the NAMM show on Jan 15th!! but I wonder why Pearl has coined this piece of hardware as a person like some un-believable drummer who uses Pearl drums!! :( Big disappointment indeed...
But hopefully this pedal is better than the Powershifter Eliminators!!

what is a direct drive pedal?

what is a direct drive pedal?

The same drive system as on the Axis and Trick pedals for instance - instead of a chain or a strap the beater is driven by a solid piece of metal.

Interesting. How does something like that feel? Is it better, heavier, faster, lighter, or pretty much the same?

Soya

Weird. Can be faster. Axis' are direct and lots of people say they're faster.

No it is not "faster" it's just that the slightest movement of the foot bord translates to the beater - there is no loss of momentum or energy. This is why peeps playing at high speed use direct drive pedals because you tend to get a loss with chain or strap drives.

I have the Yamaha direct drive pedal and I love it - need some getting used to at the begining though.

Looks awesome. I'll be picking one of these babies up asap. My eliminators have been great pedals. I'm sure I'll keep them for secondary kits ect.

Which means....that they can possibly play faster :D

It is literally a 'faster' pedal than a chain or strap drive, because there is no lag between the time you move the pedal and the time the beater moves. Therefore, it is a faster pedal.

But of course, no substitute for fast legs. You still need to practise, but I can guarantee you that the people who use direct drive pedals (and I'm already getting a price for this one) burn less energy and hit higher speeds with less effort.

I'm getting one. They're in the works for a Demon Drive hi hat pedal a long the road. I think is coming out later this year but is in the works.
