Hey guys just wanted to update you on the international drum expo that happened this weekend in New Hampshire with Steve Smith, Pete Lockett, Dave Dicenso, Cindy Blackman and so many more drummers. The weekend was awesome, and the drummers there were really good!! I mainly went up to see Dave Dicenso play as i am a huge fan of his. I actually got to hang out with him and have a beer on saturday night with him and Andrew Barr!! What an awesome and personal person!!

Dave set up a basic four piece kit with no double bass, which i thought was a little unusual but he said he wanted to go in there real basic. He played the song back in black (dave dicenso style of course) in a really cool way, and explained how he utilizes the clave and many Latin rhythms in his playing. His whole clinic was based on using the 15 permutations of the quarter note using sixteenth notes against the clave rhythm. He explained about how he does his solos and how he uses these different rhythms to solo off of. All in all his right foot and his hand foot combinations left my jaw on the floor. Him playing that small little kit was absolutely magic!!

On Saturday night Steve Smith played with Pete Lockett and they did a duet which was pretty awesome!! They did a whole solo singing in some African language. It was very interesting...they had a lot more drummers but i only stayed and watched mainly pete, steve, and dave. All in all it was a good weekend with lots of raffles (i'm still hoping i won something because i left before they were going to call out the winners) food, and a ton of vintage drums. Hopefully they have one next year too, that is a little more organized.
