Flams are a great way to embellish your strokes. After you have learnt to play some of the basic flam rudiments, these odd groupings can be very effective alternatives.

Here are some excercises:

Additional exercises:
3 & 4 - substitute double strokes for singles.
5 & 6 - shift accent to second sixteenth of each beat.

I would advise you to consider playing 1/4 notes with the bass drum when displacing accents. This way you can keep track of the downbeats even though you are emphasing secondary beats. In addition, you should try counting, to develop a strong sense of where each beat lands.
