I was wondering if any of you out there has had a vintage kit assesed by someone who knows what they are doing and if his or hers' opinion is considered valid. I have a 1979 Ludwig Octaplus in a natural maple finish. The kit is in excellent condition. The toms are all what Ludwig called power concert toms. They are deeper than normal drums, with no resonant heads (by design). Sizes are 6,8,10,12,13,14,15 and 16" rack toms. The floors are 18 and 20" which by the way are thunderous. The bass drums are both 26"x18". The snare is 14"x61/2" a Ludwig Classic with individually adjustable snare wires. I'm not looking to sell or trade but just want to know what I should insure it for. I am also considering installing lugs, hoops etc. for resonant heads. I am reluctant to do this as I don't want to devalue a vintage kit. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

I'm mostly interested in what my kit is worth and if any modifications to it, i.e. lugs for resonant heads, will bring it's value down. I could not afford to replace it, thats for sure. I'll post some pics in the next couple days. When I bought it back in "79" I was 18 at the time. My dad,god rest his soul, was cool enough to co-sign a loan so I could buy this kit. I got the kit, a 23" zildjian ride, 16 & 18" A crashes and a 18" china for $2,200.00 including shipping. How sick is that! Again I'm not selling I just want to insure it.
