We caught the show last night and it was incredible! Seeing all that talent in an intimate atmosphere was a real treat. My official "welcome to L.A." music experience. This is one of the reasons I moved here. It was interesting seeing Virgil in a trio setting. The only tune I recognized was "Pyramids on Mars". Does anyone know if this group lineup has any recordings or is planning to record? Rufus Philpot on bass - excellent! I have a new favorite fusion bassist! Mitch Forman on keys and breath synth (quite an interesting instrument), another monster player that I'll have to catch up on his work. Virgil was Virgil. Doing the inhuman. Playing those insane double bass groupings (doubles, etc.), stick twirling, layering patterns, killer remote hi-hat work, all while playing dynamically with speed and power. Great drum solo. MacAlpine's group is playing next week with Virgil and Billy Sheehan on bass, but I have to work. Evidently, this was a warmup gig for the European tour of this group. An inspiring evening of music!

Hey Drum Dog...

Out of all the shows, I wasn't there that night because I was out of town. However, if you're coming down for the Devil's Slingshot show on Wednesday, you'll definitely see me. Im always the one taking pictures/video.

Welcome to LA, BTW! :)

Unfortunately, no pics Morgenthaler, and like I said, I have to work next Wednesday, but I'm excited about the plethora of music to be heard here. Thanks for the welcome Christopher, we'll have to hook up sometime for a show or just to talk drums. Any tips or suggestions for newbies to L.A. would be greatly appreciated!
