Frequent short bursts of speed can be an effective way of building overall speed. The exercises in this lesson are an example of two basic drills I worked on to help develop my single and double stroke rolls.

Work them at different speeds, always bearing in mind good articulation and control is of prime importance. In the video, I play them from slow to fast, and even though this is an effective way of practicing, I would recommend the less experienced player use a click track, gradually increasing the tempo to your threshold.

Notice that examples 3 & 4 on the chart are the same as 1 & 2, with the left hand leading. You can do the same with 5 & 6.
