Damn, on the same day, there's the first annual NY Avant-Rock Festival, which will be mighty (and a bunch of my friends are playing it as well).
That starts at 8PM. Details at: http://www.bowerypoetry.com

Hopefully, the clinic is early enough to see both!

Cool, thank you sir.

I'm happy it's earlier in the day. As I mentioned, later in the day, the first annual NY Avant-Rock Festival is going down. It should be great ( and no, I don't have a stake in it ;) ).

Hey Nevesis...There seems to be a confusion. I believe the show was badly advertised. The show starts at 3, not at 12.

Ok, well this changes things slightly. According to them on the phone they say the show starts promptly at 12pm.

Its in two days, and I need to find out the truth!

Hey-ho, I just called the front desk and the secretary confirmed what Chris just said.

It's been moved to 3-5PM.

BTW, tickets are going fast. There's only room for 45-50 people. Quite an intimate setting :)

Wow, I think it was the best day of my life, meeting god. lol and no cjc there was no video cameras, he said he thought he saw a video device and to put it away if it was. Otherwise it was the best drum clinic ever, I got a pair of sticks he played with and got'em signed, so there really "signature" stick. hahaha Virg played a new compostition he working on for his next solo album but said the song wasn't done yet and he should be recording it next year, and played a new version of dogboots. I don't think any other drum clinic in my life will compare to this. I only got pics on a regular camera but I'm gonna hopefully have my friend who was there scan them.

Sickest. Virgil clinic. EVER.

OMFG.

He played with the most amazing verocity today and myself and my friends were in shock and awe the entire time.

I have some pics I will post later!

The best part of the entire day for me besides seeing Virgil play and rip the drums, was afterwards when I thanked him for everything and told him how I am premium member of the site and love all the material and he said "who are you on the forum", I said "I am nevesis.." he shot back with "Oh your that guy!, I think I saw one of your videos of a drum off right? I loved it!"

I almost fainted. Virgil, my drumming idol and inspiration just told me he thought my playing was good. It was one moment that as great as it was for me, felt so wrong at the same time! Hahah. Other then hearing him say that (which made my entire year) I still was in awe at the display of drumming he put on today. It was unbelievable. I will be sure to type more sometime soon once I can pick my jaw off the floor and regain my thoughts and composure!!! :D

Sound's like an amazing show guy's will be looking for a COMPREHENSIVE review! :D That is quite a compliment Nevesis. Something I am sure you will never forget. It is one thing to see Virg with hundred's of other people but to be part of a group of only 50 now that would be something.

Hey Nevesis

Virgil called me right after the clinic and told me about it all. See? I told you I'd show him your videos :) Not to mention that you're the Guitar Center Drumoff *****, so like 1 in 5 threads are about those drumoff solos!

Anyway, he told me that he LOVED the NY crowd. Expect to see him there in the near future...this time, he'll try to make it there with a band!

Im looking forward to seeing your pics. You can send them to me if you like webmaster@virgildonati.com

Cheers!

My pictures were not as good as the guy who posted a few back. His pics came out great. I was too busy with my mouth on the ground watching him the whole time!

He was not even fully comfortable with the kit, and pedal and funny thing is after his open solo, he tied his shoe which led me to believe during the open solo his left shoe was untied the entire time, AND to still be doing what he was on double bass was SICKENING. :D

He made my entire year, and especially when he knew of my playing, I was dumbfounded! He NEEDS to come to NY more, it was such an intimate setting in that little room and NY can't get enough Virgil!

Thanks again Christopher for all you do, and thank you Virgil for being the most inspiring, sickest drummer living on the planet!!! :)

Virgil went over his basic foot technique and how he plays double bass drum patterns and went over the double stroke roll. He said it took'em and hour a day for a year to get them good. He said on Power Drumming it was the first time he ever displayed the roll to everybody. Then he went over the rhythmic factors sheet and shifting and displacing rudiments like the flam tap, accent and regular accent on different part of the beats. What really blew me away was that he played the paradiddle/double paradiddle layer with both sides and then made the transittions from playing paradidles on the right and double paradiddles on the left, to paradiddles on the left and doubles on the right, and vice versa. Soooooooooo insane, I didn't think it was even possible, he then did the same with the paradiddle/fiveadiddle. I don't want to give everything away :D Then he took quesitions at the end of the clinic. I'm just happy I got a front row seat right in front of him. Can't wait to see him again.

Wonderful clinic. I loved the layering with the second snare. When he seemlessly inverted the layering my jaw hit the floor.

My wife bought a T for me and Virgil gave her a pair of sticks. Weeee!

because then it would kinda give away some of the stuff on the lessons I guess, so therefore everyone should become a premium member, it's worth every penny. It was kinda funny b/c I told Virgil he has to keep up with the updates on the premium b/c he's slackin, and he was like "ohh your one of those guys" I was like wow, lol. Some of the stuff he went over during the clinic was examples like, when playing flam accents around the kit he moves for drum to drum on the 2nd triplet, which makes alot more sense then moving from each drums on the flams b/c the 2nd triplets is either a right or left stroke therefore allowing you to move to the drum on the right or left much easier. Virgil also talked about phrasing different rudiments, ie, different note values, which corresponds to the rhythmic factor sheet. Like if your playing a flam tap or accents, he'll throw 2 flams in a row to invert the rudiment onto a different part of the beat, really fun stuff. There's some of the ideas cjc, hope your happy now. lol
