I love TAMA drums....their starclassic range sounds amazing. I won't bag any other brands that i have played, but for the sound im after, TAMA is for me! I do believe their bass drums are the greatest sounding ones on the market...would die to hear virg play a TAMA kit and his feet are making new laws on breaking the speed barrier! :D
But as i collect various snare drums, each drum has it's own specialness...i own a few Pearl snares (maple, piccolo) and they sound great in certain situations....but i'm a TAMA man thru and thru! Currently saving for a TAMA bell brass snare....they are around the aussie $5000 mark....eeek! But if you have heard the new Metallica album...you will totally understand what i mean! :D
Good to see the boys are going back to their roots!
Cheers!

I THINK "FAT MIKES" FAT HAS CAUSED A BLOCKAGE OF HIS FAT BRAIN. HATE TO BE A DICK BUT CAN YOU HONESTLY SAY THAT YOU LIKE LARS ULRICH. HE SOUNDS LIKE FLY POO ON TOP OF DOG POO. AND SO DOES THAT SNARE. COMMON WHY MUST YOU BETRAY VITGIL DONATI LIKE THAT. TO EVEN MENTION LAR'S MONEY HUNGRY,SOLD OUT,CANT DRUM FOR SHIT NAME ON VIRGILS MESSAGEBOARD IS AN INSULT. NOW GO AHEAD AND ENJOY TAMA DRUMS,NO PROBLEM. BUT TO ENJOY LARS ULRICH AS A DRUMMER IS A HUGE MISTAKE. THE REASON IM BEING SO HARD ON FAT MIKE IS BECAUSE TO PROMOTE LARS IS TO PROMOTE SLOPPINESS AND LACK OF DISCIPLINE. I DONT WANT TO SEE HIS LAZY AND COCKY APPROACH TODRUMMING RUB OFF ON ANYONE.IT MAKES ME SICK. FAT MIKE...... IM A FRIEND.... NOT THE ENEMY OH YEAH BY THE WAY THE "BAKED POTATO " SHOW LAST NIGHT WAS SPECTACULARS ULRICH WILL NEVER BE TALKED ABOUT ON THIS SITE AGAIN PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

Man, whatīs problem rythmtroll?!?!?!? You have no right to go on like that, this is a messageboard where EVERYBODY can say their opinion. I hope this is just some kind of a sick joke from your side
I donīt enjoy listening to Ulrich either and Fatmike just commented his snaredrum!!! Get a hold of yourself!!!!
Do you seriosly mean that your comments like:
"I THINK "FAT MIKES" FAT HAS CAUSED A BLOCKAGE OF HIS FAT BRAIN" and "IM A FRIEND" is comparible?!?!?!?

You say that itīs a insult to mention Ulrich on this messageboard, but itīs YOU that is insulting!!!!

With that kind of attitude to other people and drummers I think you should leave this messageboard right now!!!!

$5000 aus dollars for a bell brass!

I dont know what the exchange rate is at the moment but i've see one in the uk for about Ģ1800! Im sure they'd sell for less than that.

How these companies Justify prices like these is astonishing. the metal is probably worth Ģ100 scrap value. Nice snare mike....and the company has a price "snare "on the public. :)

Almost a year ago, i was about to buy a Tama Rockstar, but dolar went up and i couldn't afford it. So i began to "investigate" about drums made by Luthiers (i don't know if it has the same meaning in English; let's say musicians who have the knowledge to build a good instrument) and I went crazy with the sound and look of the one i choose; i love it.

Here it is:

This is an old pic, i have made some changes with the position of cymbals and toms.

RHYTHMTROLL I THINK LARS IS GOOD FOR METALLICA's SONGS!HE ALSO PLAYS NICE ON ...AND JUSTICE FOR ALL BUT ON THE NEW ONE I AGREE HE IS WEIRD,HAHA!BUT WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE PLAYED IF YOU WERE GIVEN THE CHANCE TO PLAY ON SUCH SONGS?ANYWAY,I AGREE WITH JONBERG's OPINION AND ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS THAT I OWN A SWINGSTAR WITH SOME CHEAP 402 PAISTE CYMBALS!THE OTHER MODELS ARE TOO EXPENSIVE!IMAGINE THAT A DW 10'TOM COSTS 700euros!!!!!!LATER,I WILL BUY BETTER DRUMS!BUT I THINK THAT TAMA,DW AND PEARL ARE SOME OF THE TOP ONES!
SEE YOU GUYS!!!;)

I just read Rhythmrolls response to Fat Mike's comment on Lars Ullrich and I think it is disgusting. There's no need to insult somebody because they enjoy listenning to certain drummers. I agree with Jonberg that Rhythm roll should be vanished from the site, not Fat mike. I think we all agree that Virg is king, but that doesn't mean you insult someone just because they like a drummer other than virg. Rhythm roll is probably the same guy who went ape sh*t when somebody mentioned Joey Jordison. Yes he's an average drummer, but at least he's a professional making money playing the drums, has endorsement deals, and gets to play infront of thousands of people (the same can be said for Lars Ullrich)...something I'm sure we would all like to do...and I'm pretty sure something that rhythm roll isn't doing. So swallow your damn pride rhythm roll, if you're such a great drummer, how come we don;t see you on the cover of Modern Drummer, endorsing products or anything else for that matter...people have a right to voice their opinions without narrow minded people like rhythm roll thrashing them...just my opinion

Drum Workshop.

On as a side note, If anyone gets a chance to see the Metallica - Some Kind of Monster movie, you will completely understand where rythmtroll is coming from. Their drummer whines like a little bitch. He actually complains about drum parts being to difficult to play! That would be something to put in the documentary. You make millions upon millions and can find no time to practice? Ahole. That's his job!! For as long as he's been playing, there's not a thing a far as their type of music he shouldn't be able to play. He is a sad, sad individual. The other instrument on that album should have been Pro-tools. Those harddrives were probably smokin at the end of those recording sessions.

i see the "garbage can" of a drum in music stores and everyone crowds around it all.."ooooohhh..LARS ULRICH SIGNATURE!" like its actually even a half descent drum. GAHH!! it is the shittiest sounding instrument ive ever heard! *sigh*..omg..no one knows how much it pisses me off hearing that horrible sound. i just wanna push lars off that thing and take a drum key to it! not like thatll help..

I love my premier drums i have a newish artist birch in rosewood finish that was made in england (which they dont do any more).
honestly u hav to hear this kit, its awsome the bass drum is 18' x 22' and sounds great i use coated emperor heads on this with no dampening.
for the Ģ500 i payed for this 5 piece fusion shell pack it is the best sounding/value kit ever (in my eyes/ears)

i also hav a lil premier olympic from the 60's which is my first kit. it only cost me Ģ100 for 20xsomething vry thin? bass drm 12' and 14' floor toms and is great for jazz and gigs

i think all the other drum manufactures make great kits nowadays aswell though and i would like a dw

Hey Guys and Gals, Jonny from Australia....
First, Well done virgil on your endles amount of talent and inspiration, and second, well everyone on a fantastic forum site. As youve guessed its Sonor all the way for me. I bought my first decent kit in 1998, it was a Sonic plus 9 ply birch kit, not only did it never let me down, but the sound and tuning range was enormous. I have recently purchased a Force 3003 white sparkle, not only does it look fantastic and even better under lights, but the smile on my face seems to be getting bigger each day, hehehe. Once again, well done on a great site, and i hope to speak to most of u in the future.....

I play yamaha like some of the other dudes here. I have a fairly new yamaha birch custom absolute. I dig it alot. Compared to all the other birch sets I have played it has the most attack, projection and low end bass drum sounds around.....for the money. I got it mainly because it was actually a very reasonable cost compared to the other higher-end sets.

I have heard through some of the crazy drum dudes around town thatDW didn't make thier own shells until fairly recently. There is a company called 'Keller Drum Shells' that supply MOST of the major drum companies thier shells. Among the past customers of Keller are DW and Tama. Nowadays most "custom" drum-makers buy shells from keller. They probably started off making thier own shells but due to an increasing amount of orders they couldn't construct enough shells in the allotted time (drumshells are hard to make by hand, it's actually harder to do right than making a body of an acoustic). Ayoette, OCP, Pork Pie buy at least a large percentage of thier shells from keller. But I think they do make the crazy custom drums there like a 12 ply maple/birch shell with gigantic air holes and stuff.

ocdp drums are the best ever i think.... i dont have any but i have played a set and they are killer. the bass drum was like a 24x24 with 14'', 16'', and 18'' toms, wow it was so powerful, and my favorite drummer ever plays them. so check how they sound on his site, www.rayluzier.com under the mp3 samples check out some of the recordings hes done especially the hideous sun demons stuff its really awesome
