Ok, before I get flamed by some of the hardcore Virgil fans, I just want to share my quick thoughts on the new Dream Theater album (which comes out Nov. 11th).
I heard the first track "As I Am", and I have to admit, it grew on me. The band sounds more cruchier and the singer (LaBrie) is pulling some Hetfield-isms. His voice has changed and has finally woken up from that blue-wet-my-bed kinda voice...which got kinda annoying after 10 years.
Mike Portnoy keeps it really clean and compliments the track very well with his playing. I was impressed. Petrucci must of got a fair share of some nu-metal licks for some of the influences for this album. It's all very very tight.
I'm personally gonna get this album, even if I did get the last one (which royally sucked). I like Dream Theater and I love what they contributed to the music scene until today. Maybe this album will be a carving stone for them in the years to come? Who knows...
