Pedro Galindo is a drummer I found
out about today.

Click on this:

http://www.musicopro.com/mp3/Conceptos_de_Bateria.mp3

This stuff is serious.

On the link he directed me to (at HOD),
you get some commentary but in spanish.

Here is the original link.

http://www.musicopro.com/audio.html

Go down to this section of the page:

Conceptos de Batería
Por Pedro Galindo

"Éste es un extracto de la música que
compuse para el Drum Fest 2002 en
México. Es una pieza complicada, ya
que la métrica es de 27 16avos. Si han
seguido mis artículos en la revista not-
arán algunas de las ideas de las que
he hablado. Espero que esta pieza los
inspire a buscar nuevas ideas y las
lleven a sus ultimas consecuencias."

This is what it translates into roughly:

Concepts in Drums By Pedro Galindo

This is an excerpt of the music that I
composed for the Drum Fest 2002 in
Mexico. It is a complicated piece, since
the meter is 27-16... ...I hope that this
piece inspires to look for them (published
ideas in a drum magazine presumably).

I will try and find out more from him.

Well, I wasn´t THAT impressed by him, but he´s good, no doubt about that. Nothing original or
mindbending, but he was groovy and had some great chops. There are pretty many drummers out there
who is that, but only average in my opinion.

peter

You must listening to a lot of
music like this, Jonberg.

For myself, the idea of grooving
around sets of 9's is a challenge
and when I hear it done, it im-
presses me but then I remember
being impressed by you and the
stuff you were working on and
so I'm not surprised at your high
standard - all to your credit.

Incidentally, I look forward to
hearing more from you.

:)

Thanks Peter =)
I just gotta clarify that I wasn´t comparing him to myself in any way. He is probably ALOT better than me, but compared to the other greats, namely Virgil etc, I wasn´t THAT impressed.
He was good, no doubt about that.
Cheers!

Well, when it comes to Virgil, NO
ONE compares. Like I keep telling
everyone, he's another species!

I was in no way comparing him
(Pedro) to Virgil or a guy like Mike
Mangini etc. It was just a platform
to expose someone like ourselves
to ourselves.

I think he's a young fellow from
Mexico but I'm not clear on that. I
love to hear new talent perform.

Always great exchanging with
you, Jonberg.

I have made friends with Pedro and
invited him to the board here. I asked
him if I could post his message to me,
where he mentioned, among other
things, that he is 33 years old and
had been playing and recording for
many years.

I will keep you posted.

(pardon the pun) ;)

It turns out Pedro is here already!

Here's an excerpt of what he said.
(I have permission):

"Hi Peter; thank you for your interest.
Well, I'm from Mexico and I'm 33 years
old. I started playing at 15 and like
everybody I begun playing with cover
bands, then some original bands and
so on. I was luky because from 20 to
32 I worked almos non stop playing
with some of the most important artist
in Mexico and latinamerica. You could
see a small list in pedrogalindo.net
(it's not a page yet but i'm working
on that) but I guess you won't know
this type of artist. So I toured Mexico
and southamerica regularly and in the
mean time I did a lot of studio work, tv
programs, teaching and you name it.
I also write in a magazine and in the
last few years I've been doing quite
a few clinics arround Mexico. The last
year my wife got a scholarship to do
a masters degree at ubc in vancouver
so now I'm in canada, I wanted to take
some time of to practice again after
soooooo many time and to compose
and study more harmony etc, so now
I'm traveling betwen Mexico and Van-
couver and relaxing a little bit..."

"...I think it's nice to know new people, I'm
starting to explore this "forums" thing in
the internet and I think it's great, I hope
to hear more from you and all the great
drummers around."

Ciao! Pedro G.

What a nice guy! It's great making friends
out there with you guys and by the way,
Pedro is the drummer who wrote about
the Virgil clinic in Vancouver!

:)

Hi peter, thankyou for yor post and your nice words, I belive that we should share what we are doing so we can inspire each other and hopefuly help to push forward the art of drumming in any way we can, and this is a great place to do this.
It's funny because after that performance I was talking backsage with a friend and he toldme that some of the things that I played sounded like Virgil Donati ( it's ok... I know he is a friend!! ), and I told him Virgil what?... I didn't know Virgil at that time, so he toldme to check Virgil and planet x, and I did, I listened him for the first time 2 days after that performance!:D.

peter

My story regarding Virgil was
not that dissimilar BUT I never
really sounded, nor sound like
Virgil. Virgil is an alien-visitation
for me. I treat him like no other
player. The conditions only apply
to him. There's very little that I
draw in comparison to him. The
bar has been raised from the
ceiling to the 5th floor.

It's great having you here, Pedro.
I really dig what you're doing and
want to hear more!!!! :)

Thank you BrettLee, I don't have a site yet but I'm working on that. You can find some basic information in pedrogalindo.net, but the page would not be ready until next year.
Pete, the only way I can send you more samples right now is by mail, so if you like, just let me know and I'll send you more stuff. Thank you guys for the warm welcome!!.

Hey... this guy is pretty good!
Pedro, if you read this...please let me know if you are doing any gigs in the Vancouver area and I will come down and say hello.
I live about 20 min from UBC and can get to any gig in the Lower Mainland within 30-45 min. I'd love to see you play dude, as well as shoot the breeze etc.
Very cool stuff.

Pedro
11-25-2003, 11:51 AM
Thank you Rob, I don't have any gig right now in Vancouver, I'm going to Mexico next week and I'll be there for 5 or 6 weeks. I'll be glad to meet you when I come back (the end of january). Maybe if there are more drummers from Vancouver reading this, we should hang out one of these days.
See you then!, By. Pedro.

Hey Pedro!

We'll definately hook up when you get back from Mexico.
I have assembled a large group of good drummers who all are friends/hang together, go to clinics and shows together etc. in the Vancouver area (and beyond) and I'm sure they would be more than happy to make your acquaintance and support you in your endeavors.

E-mail me at: rcmedia@telus.net when you get a chance and we'll arrange something.

Cheers

Rob,

Hey, hombre. I can't hold a
candle to some of the stuff
that Pedro's been up to over
these last number of years.

I just like him so much that
I help him out in every way
that I can. I invited him here
to get in touch with guys like
you - other supporters of
our mentor, Virgil Donati.

Thanks. If I get there, I will
definitely let you know and
I would be honored to be
in the same room with you
great guys. :)

Hi Peter,

I'm not superstitious but all this cool drummer networking that goes on in places like this would definately falll into the catagory of 'Good Karma'.
We will welcome Pedro into our fold with open hearts and minds.

This year's Montreal Drum Festival was the epitome of how drumming and good karma have brought a lot of cool people together as close friends and colleagues from all over N.America and across the globe.
It was nothing but good vibes all the way and tons of good times.
Almost too much fun!
It's like they say, guitar players etc. don't do stuff like that... just drummers!
Drummers hang because it's a brotherhood (in my eyes anyways).

Why keep all the fun to ourselves when we can spread it around?

Cheers,

rcmedia

I almost forgot Peter... we would be the ones who would be honoured to be in the same room with a guy like yourself.

I hope this doesn't embarass anyone, but Christopher speaks highly of you and your good deeds in here.
I think you have earned a certain respect here that should not be taken for granted by anyone.
Spreading positive knowledge etc. is one of the kindest things anyone can do in life.

In other words... It's all good!
