hey guys just wondering if u could help me out.
i recently got a new speaker and was testing it out (extremely loud)
anyways now my right ear feels like it is all blocked/plugged up, the frequencies actually sound lower in my right ear...
its not ringing that much, its just got a blocked feeling that has been there for a few days...
its weird cuz i have subwoofers in my car and plus sometimes i drum without earplugs and this has never happened...
maybe my new pool is a contributing factor (although there's no water in my ear)
does anyone here get that??- thanks

Maybe you've got some wax in there...I don't want to gross you guys out, but once I sort of had the same thing...out of nowhere, I was having troubles hearing out of one ear and it felt all stuffed and blocked...so I went to the doctor and he looked in my ear and it turned out I had a big ball of wax in my ear that was plugging it up and not allowing me to hear properly (pretty gross eh???) The doctor just flushed it out with some water and it was all better after that....go see your doc....maybe that's what you've got...if that's what it is, the doc can flush it out in a few seconds and you'll be back to normal....hope that helps!!!

Tim the wax goes deeper than just where you cant get it out. Hence quitou's prob. The water has possibly softened the wax and shifted it, Now,..... Im not a doctor so i'm only guessing as anyone can.
[Some people have their ears siringed to get the wax out].

BTW....Theres also a possibility you may have damaged your hearing IF,...... as you say you tested your speaker out LOUDLY,
I can certainly hear buzzing in my ears and my job involved testing stuff Loudly. For the small amount of time it takes i'd suggest a visit to the doctor as soon as possible, if it developes into ear ache.... then it really will be a pain. :(

thanks me.2 i really appreciated that...
im postive its water in my ear, as i went swimming just before it started and i actually had pain in my right ear afterwards. there was no ringing so it wouldnt be from the noise. i put some aquaear in to dry it out so hopefully it'll be gone soon

well, ears will soon give in to loud stuff. just get it checked by a doctor if the abnormality hasn't wear down.

I got my cast earplugs about 1.5 years ago - one of the best investments I've ever made. I have no idea why I didn't get them sooner (after all I have been playing drums for like 16 years....)

Anyway, in the 2-week period between having the cast made and till the plugs arrive, I went to a concert. Nothing really loud or anything. At the time, I was often using small pieces of napkin or whatever, that I put in my mouth and rolled into little balls as earplugs (sounds a bit disgusting describing it now, but it doesn't seem that bad when doing it... :o). They worked pretty good, so I also did this at this particular concert while thinking "in a week from now, I will have my real earplugs and that sure will be nice".

When leaving the venue after the concert I immediately noticed that my left ear had lost all treble - really bad. Everything from 8kHz and up was just gone! Also there was a very distinct tinitus-style high pitched tone that didn't use to be there...

Boy, was I scared!

As some of you may know, I'm studying as an audio engineer. At the time of the incident I had been informed that apart from a pending medical hearing test, I was accepted by the school (the Rythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen) - my dream study that I had been struggling for 3 years to get into as they only allow 4 students pr. year out of 50-200 applicants....and now this! My entire hope for a carrier in music and sound on the line...

After one of the longest nights of my life, I went to the doctor the next day. He looked into my ear and said: "Why do you stick cotton or whatever it is in there?", pulled out a piece of the homemade earplug that had been left in there, and my hearing was back to normal and the tinitus was gone. PHEWW!

It may seem like a no-brainer, and ofcourse it had crossed my mind several times that this was the answer but I could not detect anything in there by myself and others who had a look into my ear couldn't see anything either. The paper-earplug did not seem to have gone apart when I took it out and out of the 100 times or so I had used that trick before (the napkin-earplugs) I had never experienced any problems of this nature....

Furthermore, I fail to understand how a small piece of paper tissue sitting in your earcanal can create a very distinct and definately real tinitus tone.....!!?!?! The tinitus I experienced was probably the most disturbing factor, as I kept reasoning that it had to indicate something more than just foreign objects in my earcanal....but it didn't...

Tim, if it doesn't disappear by itself soon I would definately see a doctor. He might very well be able to put your mind at ease real quickly. Might be wax (can also create a host of different quirks in your ears - one less likely than the other), might be water.... I've never heard of anyone getting a permanent, noticeable hearing loss from one single experience with music. Only gunshots fired close to the ear or something like that I think can cause that.....but ofcourse I don't how loud that speaker of yours was playing....

Good luck, man!

Actually, it's generally recommended not to clean wax from your ears by yourself. The wax has a function and you risk damaging your eardrum. Instead, let a doctor clean your ears every few years or so.

When I went to get my earplug-casts made, the doc also pulled out two raisin-sized earwax balls out of my head... :) It took three days before my hearing returned to normal and it didn't sound like my clothes were mic'ed up! :)

Highly recommendable thing to do every few years, even if you have no problem (none that you know of, that is!)

Glad to hear your problem is solved, Tim!

I get that when I get sick, when my nose and head are blocked (donīt know the english expression for it), I took pencillin to get rid of it.
Itīs really frustrating, but maybe you arenīt sick, and then I canīt help you, maybe go to an eardoctor to check it out.
Cheers!
