i tell you man........working in a 5 star drum shop gives me the chance to see and play ALL the new gear that's out. I gota' say that this year... Mapex has done something special. the orion and the saturn kits are out of control. I really dig the saturns. they sound unbelievable, and the finishes are beautiful as well. they are really turning that company around. if any of you are looking for a new kit.........diff. check them out as they are outstanding.
Orions and Saturns are wonderfull looking and sounding kits!

I've played one, sounded great. It's the one with the gold lugs but chrome hoops, right? That's the one thing I didn't like.

Mapex is OFF THE CHAIN! It's probably the meanest, Baddest drum company (that many are not that familiar with) happening! Their isolation systems are genius and the finishes are the most beautiful I've ever seen. The Orion Burl Maple with the Imperial Burst finish simply floors me!
From the Orion to the VX Series, these are some butt stompin drums!

From a guy playing sonor's high end kits, that means something!

I have Q and I think they have best relation between quality and price. But if I would go for some serious drums I would probably choose Pearl Masters or Tama Starclassic.

Mapex also do Limited Edition Orion drum sets with hoop finishes to match the lugs. One of my drum tutors had a gorgeous Orion Custom with gold plated lugs and hoops, and one of my mates bought the LE Orion in Coffee Fade -- brown to orange to brown, with black chrome lugs and hoops. I borrowed it for my drum clinic! SWEET! And what's more, he got it on special offer for £1400, which is equivalent to about $2400.
In saying that, if I had enough money to buy a Mapex Orion I'd sooner get a DW shell pack or a small set up with hardware. :)

I always usta think that mapex was like pacific in a sense that they make high quality low end type drums, after playing there new kits i realized i was dead wrong they are amayzing and i wouldnt mind having one!

I have an Orion and I have a Pro M. Both kits are amazing. My Orion is an older one with the Gold Lugs.... at the time I wanted something really unique so it has 2 mounted 16'' toms on is 14 deep the other is 15 deep and I got a 16X16 floor and an 18X16 floor tom with the 24'' kick. They sound amazing. I just got my Pro M kit and it is brand new (had it 3 days) Honestly the New Pro M sounds better than the old Orion that I have because Mapex has just been getting better and better even on the lower end products like the VX series. My Pro M has 10,12,13,an 14'' rack toms and 16 and 18'' floors with 2 22X18 kicks (PUNCHY!!!) I would recomend Mapex to anyone for any style of music and I wouldn't play any other drums after I first played mapex.
Think the Saturns kick ass! Not so pricey, nearly-high end awesome sounding drums.
But I've got a Yamaha Stage Custom Nouveau... I've got problem with using other hardware than Yamaha's... Why the hell I'm I saying this!?! Hum...
Yeah Saturns are wicked!

I have the old Mars Pro kit in emerald green, which is by no means a high-end kit. It's great for practice though, and it takes pretty well to tuning. Next on my list is either a DW or a Pearl... :) T

I attached some pictures of my Mapex Pro M kit for everyone to see. Sorry I don't have any better shots, just what my guitar player took while I was playing.
