Don't get an Iron Cobra Junior, you'll regret it.

Get a Pearl Eliminator. I don't really like the normal Iron Cobra much either. Can't speak for DW or Axis.

PEARL ELIMINATOR
come go virgil style!!
i've had mine for a few months
its so damn fine
the cam thing is no gimmick they're so mad- this pedal has unmatched control, fluency, and just a really comfortable/reliable feel

There are, up to now, two pedal series that cught my interest.
As you told me Pearl Eliminator and Axis Longboards.
What do you think of Axis????

Axis looks really interesting.
Just test them first before you buy them if ever any store would let you.

Tool,

Read up on the Axis-A Longborad
thread. I talked about it A LOT. I
have both the Axis and Pearls.

If money is no object, get the Axis
but you have to try them.

Otherwise, the Eliminators are
the best pedal for the money.

Totally peter.

Though I think I have yet to try the Axis pedals. I've heard a lot about them. I remember when they first came out on the market! :)

Hey Peter,

today I bought the Pearl Eliminator chain driven power shifter.
I had a performance with the blue cam on and I have to say it´ s second to none for the money, you´re right.
But there´s one thing that strikes me, a friend of mine told me that he heard lots of complaints about the cams breaking during perfomances. What´s up with this shit?
Haven´t heard anything about it yet.........

I think their drums suck now, well, they arent like they used to be cause they stopped using Keller shells, but their pedals are amazing... I play the DW 5000, which is pretty much the industry standard, the Pearl Eliminator is pretty similiar, but the DW 9000!!! If you've got the big bucks get a 9000, it's completely silent and sooooooo smooth.

The DW9K is their answer
to the Axis and Yamaha
Flying Dragons.

Direct-Drive is a different
animal and you have to
try it before you commit.

I LOVE the Axis-A Longboard.

At the same time, these
types of pedals are VERY
expensive. If cost is an
issue, the Eliminator is
the best choice. :)

I use a DW 5000 double chain and it is the best pedal I've ever used. It's resilient (I hope I spelled that right) to say the least. I like the yamaha flying dragons too but I've only tried one out at a guitar center one time. Pearl's are awesome too.

That stuff about the cams of the eliminators is scary stuff! That is every drummer's worst nightmare! Imagine that it's the second song of the show, and all of the sudden...POP! No more thumping for the rest of the night.

A DW is more expensive...but a Pearl Eliminator is very good from what I hear...
I'm having trouble with the same predicament (sp? ) and I don't know which to go for.

1. DW 5000
2. Eliminator

I'm actually thinking about the eliminator though.

As Peter and others have said Pearl E's and not just because Virgil uses them.
For the money they are the best. I just compared the Pearl's next to the DW5000 Iron Cobra and the Yamaha'a all at the same time to refresh my memory and Pearl has them beat. Very solid craftsmanship, very fluid and consistent and powerful and go belt over chain but that is just my opinion.

What exactly are the cams ( Pearl E's ) made of? Are they plastic? Alloy? Fiberglass? Poo? Any of the above?

Also, I'm honestly thinking of getting some eliminators simply because of the price, and the many features of them. I'm just worried about those cams...:(

Do NOT worry about those cams. They are made of plastic and make a HUGE difference when you've been playing with them for a while and then switch to another cam.

They won't break or anything. The only thing that you might see changing on there is the felt that is on the cam that lines up with the belt...this gets used a lot depending how heavy you are with your foot, but it's really a minor thing.

For strap drive pedals, the Eliminators can take quite a beating. I would recommend it 100%. Also, Pearl has been coming out with some great new products every year to extend the functionality of the Eliminators.

See, I'm not going with belt drive though.
I'm going with chain drive. I can imagine a chain would be harder on the cam then a belt.

personally i dont like dw, i found lots of limitations on the 5000 chain drive one. i fell in love with the tama iron cobra double chained... theyre not expensive, they are sort of smooths, and works very good for me.

the axis pedals are too expensive... but im gonna get one very soon ! :D
just dont buy yamaha,
i like pearl but i broke the straps....

Is chain just as responsive as belt?

kirk

I like the feel of the belt better than the chain. But it is personal preference of course.

Does anyone here know if physically ( use of physics, of course ) if the chain will respond better than a belt, or vise versa?

peter

Those straps are steel cord. THEY WILL NOT BREAK.
Trust me. The chain has a slower action.
