Pearl Power-Shifter, Eliminators
and Axis-A Longboards.

They're different pedals, altogether.

I have used all the cams on the
Eliminators. I see reasons for all
of them. Right now, I'm on the
blue, after having been on the
whites for a while. I like the reds
too. Great pedal, for the money.

Has anyone tried the new dw 9000 double pedals? And if so are they worth getting. My best friend has them and he can pretty much play doubles on them pretty fast.

Tool,

They're both good and by the
way, I have talked to a guy over
at HOD about the DW9K and he
had a few things to say about
tham - all positive.

On the Axis-A Longboards and
the Pearl Eliminators, I believe
that the design of the Axis is
superior - more having to do
with the Longboard, itself. It
comes with the Variable Drive
Lever, which the cams of the
Eliminator try and emulate.

The action is ultra-smooth
and takes getting used to.
Chain-drummers will have
the most difficult time with
them but I was a chain-guy
myself. The thing about the
Axis pedals, besides the
longboard, is the price.

The Eliminators are the best
pedal, for the money. The
ams make them versatile, in
terms of feel but for a lot
less money. They're not
better pedals but better
pedals, for the money.

Thanks Peter for letting me know.
I think I´ll check the Pearl pedal and I know one shop in Germany sells it for about 350 Euro that´s really good.........

On the DW9K and this is 2nd-
hand, they're direct-drive, like
the Yamaha Dragon-Fly and the
Axis-A. They have immediate
response but only the Axis-A
has the Longboard option,
which I believe is really a plus.

They all have tall price tags.

years ago a friend bought these dw9000 or may be lower model name but they are the high ends ones dw double pedals. on one occasion he lended them just to get them break in so to speak. i noticed they weren't as stable as yamaha coz of the double chains holding the footboard not to sway on the sides. it's very subtle though. but they seems to punch the bass drum loud enough especially using the solid beaters.

overall they are ok.
but axis or the newer models of pearl seems to have more functionality which are really a big plus.

Iron cobras all the way BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went to BDC (birmingham drum centre, England) to get a professional double pedal and I asked about the eliminators and the guy said that I should avoid them because apparently the cams come offf after 6 months of hard use, so I got the iron cobras and I've had no trouble!!!!

I've heard good things about Yamaha direct-drives... Also the Iron Cobras feel great, but my Sonor Giant Step double pedal is phenomenal. It's the best I've tried. So smooth!

5002 double chains, no weights, low spring tension...love umm, my only beef with dw pedals is that the linkage from the slave pedal is garbage (this applies to the 9000's as well) they need to make one with needle bearings and such....mine are so worn out, and they are only 3 years old

I have a DW 4002 Doublepedal with single chain drive and very satisfied with it. I use a low spring tension and the felt beaters. There is not much to adjust but it is absolutely smooth.
Just in case I would have the need or chance to get a new I would buy a DW 7002, Pearl P-122 TW, Sonor 496s or the new P-1002 as I think that these pedals are the most basic ones but at the same at a rather high quality.
I think pedals like the Pearl Eliminator are great but many drummers find it difficult to get the "perfect" adjustment with them. So more basic pedals with a very good quality are, in my opinion, way more useful for most of the drummers than a more sohisticated pedal.

DW 9000 double, best pedals i've ever played. Except now when i can't play something...no blaiming it on the pedals, lol.

ICM,

They are a fine, fine pedal. If I were to fault
it or any pedal, with a fixed cam, it would be
that the feel is not as adjustable. Great hard-
ware, like most of the Tama gear. I prefer the
quad-beaters, from Pearl, on them, with the
weights halfway up.

On the Eliminators, users have to get a hold
of the purple cams. They are essential. I use
them now, all the time.

Master Peter,

Could you give us more insight
on the purple cams ?
Everybody speaks of them, but
without really talking about their
specifications compared to the
other cams.

Dw 9002 doubles. I'm quite happy with them.

I use the 2002C Powershifter Eliminator with blue cams. I'll have to find some purple and yellow cams to see how they feel. The blue cams are the most comfortable for doubles using the toe-ball technique.

I have used the DW9000 and I like it for singles. It's a nice smooth pedal. The Eliminator is more comfortable for other applications than singles.

I Must say that once I got the Axis adjusted right, there was no getting used to them at all... I was right at home. I've been a chain user since the good Lord knows when, and the converison process has been no problem for me at all. It has actually been for the better because the pedal is that much better. Longboard? I'd really like to learn how to utilize this aspect of the pedal more. because I play with my heels slightly up, I don't get much benefit from this portion of the pedal... Any suggestions Peter?

I borrowed the Eliminator from a friend for about a month. He gave it to me minus one black cam. It had fallen off and gotten lost without him ever knowing it... Outside of cam wear, it's a great pedal. He also owns the mighty Iron Cobra! I've used these also and you can't go wrong with this pedal either in my opinion. I think the biggest thing that Axis A's has over all the pedals mentioned and maybe even those unmentioned at this time is adjustability. Yes, it costs that much more, but it's also that much better.

I use the Pearl Powershifters with the blue cams. And the standard quad beater or the sonic hammer beaters from Axis dependin on the aplication.

I've got the original Japanese made Iron Cobra when they were first released in Australia some 12-13 years ago. It has served me well but it's now starting to show its age and not responding the way it used to.

The one problem that I had with it from around halfway through its life is the double chains on the auxilliary pedal actually wore into the one side of the cam. From what I've noticed, the hinge at the base of the footboard where it meets the heel plate seems to be worn and chances are that the play from that has resulted in the chain doing its dirty deeds. Oddly enough, as time went on, I found myself readjusting the springs as you normally would on something that old but I actually adjusted the springs looser each time rather than tighter! Weird behaviour but nevertheless, doesn't matter how I adjust the pedals now, I just don't get the same response and I find myself working harder for the fast rolls I could normally brush the pedal for otherwise.

Great pedals - expensive (at least back then) but they've proven themselves to be good value.

Now it's time to consider either Axis A longboards or these funky Trick Pro V1's.

I've been using a Dixon single chain pedal for almost 10 years now. It's far from perfect and I've had my share of problems with it, but it's served me well over the years and I can play fine on it, so ... no reason to change yet. :)

I used to use an IC double pedal (powerglide) It was an ok pedal for where I was in the learning curve then. Since I moved onto the DW 9002 Double Pedal, and it is smooth, but they really need to sort out the connector rod, that thing adds a lot of friction... not good.

Due to some very tasty auctions appearing on my local website I am now the semi-proud owner of 2 22" tama rockstar bass drums, an axis shortboard X (with trad-style felt beater), and an axis longboard A (with sonic hammer).

I much prefer the shortboard X, its much more responsive, and smoother, than the longboard A. It seems logical to use 2 singles that are the same... so I'm on the lookout for another shortboard X, possibly a longboard, but we'll see....

woohoo first post :D

When I try sonor giant step pedals at the music store they feel like german craftmanship.

And that means very very good.

The only differences with my axis longboards is that the axis feel so much lighter and thus I can get more power and volume out of my longboards.

Plus I don't like the excentric cam on the sonor.
