View Full Version : Modifying your Octavarium for pure brutality!

I really love this album I made some editing
by simply removing some of the sections.

Trim down the songs and retain only the main riffs, solos (wanking parts), more wanking parts etc etc. no verse or choruses simply no vocals.

Octavarium was the most fun to edit.
Though i place the flute part at the end
so as to have this effect of "there's indeed hope"
or whatever the song feels like to me.
It's now only 9:35 mins long.

Of course track 2 and 4 are simply untouchables.

Anyway listening to this songs in a hurried straight to the heavier parts
felt so brutal atleast for me. The riffs, solos, unisons really kick major
sonic asses. wish i could post my modified files for yah
fellas to check them out.

Now i can listen to them while riding a bike
no need to hit the forward or skip key.
Kinda frantic actually.

i've edited ToT and Awake as well.
LoL it's crazy yet so much fun listening
to them without the occasional peskiness
of James voice. although at Octa he sounded
much better.

I've just listened to your edited Octavarium song, alencore!

I must say I don't like it, because the subtlety the song is build up and finally climaxes in "trapped inside this octavarium!!" is really gone.. it's cool that you cut ALL vocal parts away, but IMHO the function and essence of the instrumental parts in this song are lost when you delete the vocal stuff.

I get goosebumps everytime I listen to "IV Intervals", but when you reduce 24 minutes of music to 10 minutes, I don't feel anything at all..

Nice try though, and thanks for sharing! Interesting stuff! :)

it's just what i think are my fav sections of the song without spending a freaking 24 mins on the shower listening to it HAHAHA! also a refresher for my f u cking sake and for my bike rides. it's not about making it better than the original, lol not. 8v is way too awesome as it is.

in an editor stand point i do hope you notice how clean the transitions are
coz i did stick some of the sections together "on the beat" instead of crossfades
which is much easier.

transitions like on...
2:48, 5:49, 6:39
so much fun for me when it almost sounds as if intended.
i'm quite crazy on these kinds of
precise editing simply bec. i'm a drummer and knows
if it's a downbeat or the right last phrase or bar to stick it, or so i think.

i'll be doing this on OTV as well, hahaha!!! ala Dom F grins...hihi.
and geez i've talked too much to this new hobby lol about it already.
and i lol a lot!

Hey alencore, I want to hear your version. > luisg@bighost.com.br
I don't like the first 8 minutes of the original song; it's too mellow for me.
Thanks.

Cheers
