The woofer enhance the low frequencies of your bass drum. And yes, it's powerfull, if you can tune it correctly.
You can't see it on the picture, but I have a mic in the woofer that can be plug into a bass amp.

I'm playing Pearl Session in Blue Marine Fade with ICON rack, in fusion sized 10, 12, 14, and 16 inch mounted toms.

I have two snares on my main kit: a 14"x5" Pearl Maple Free-Floater in natural finish, and a 13"x3" Pearl Maple piccolo in a orange finish.

I have a buttload of cymbals, among them Thomas Lang's signatures, 14" Paiste Dark Energy hats and 22" ride, 20" K Custom Flat Ride, some A's and A Customs, Wuhan china, and some crappy 14" Camber hats that I've mounted Virgil-style on my right side.

And I have my Pearl Export in chrome that I use for band rehearsals. It's a piece of junk, but I'll never get rid of my first love :D

here are some pictures of my drums! (rumsn)

the blue one is a tama starclassic. the set up is the actual that i play live
and in the studio. i like it to split the toms up in this maner to have more options on my left side ;-)

the red one is a sonor jungle set - i use it mainly in jazz or accoustic settings. it's a lot of fun to play on this small kit.

so thats it.

all the best

I have 2 kits, one set up for practice and one kit to gig/record with. Both kits are set up identical(minus 8" tom for practice). My cymbals/snare drums/pedals/hi-hats/throne are the items used for both.

My Drum Workshop in Electric Blue w/brass hardware I use for gigs/recording. Depending on the type of music I'm playing for the job, I may use some or all of the following.

18x22 Bass
7x8 Tom
8x10 Tom
10x12 Tom
12x14 Floor Tom
14x16 Floor Tom

Hardware is all DW 9000 series for toms and cymbals.

My Pearl Export ELX select in Amber Mist w/chrome hardware for practice:
18x22 Bass
9x10 Tom
10x12 Tom
12x14 Floor Tom
14x16 Floor Tom

Hardware is all Pearl entry level. Now with this kit set up in my practice area, it will never be torn down or modified much so to spend the big bucks on higher quality hardware to me was not important, this line of hardware does the job just fine.

For both kits I use:
5x14 Pearl ELX snare in Amber Mist w/chrome hardware
5x10 Pacific 805 snare in Orange w/black hardware
DW 5002 AD3 Turbo double bass drum pedal
DW 5500TL Hi-Hat
DW 9502 Cable Remote Hi-Hat

Cymbals: Depending on the type of music I'm playing for the gig, I may use some or all of the following.

Sabian-
20" HHX Evolution Ride
19" HHX Power Crash
18" HHX Evolution Crash
18" AXX Explosion Crash
18" AA Chinese
16" AA Rock Crash
12" HH Splash
8 " AAX Splash
Radia-
18" China w/16" Crash inside
16" China w/14" Crash inside
12" Bell
9" Cup Chime
8" Cup Chime

Zildjian
14" New Beat Hi-Hats
13" K/Z Hi-Hats

I also use a Pork Pie bike seat drum throne
Vater 5b sticks
Vic Firth Isolation Stereo Headphones for Prictice/clicktrack.

I'm trying to get a picture of my DW kit set up but I haven't been so lucky so I just added a pic of the 8" tom to give all of you a general idea of the finish.

Cheers

Jsuplicki, how do you like those Radia's? Are they okay for normal music?

Using the chinas/crashes stacked for me have use if the music calls for it. I mostly use them in original compositions as their sound is unique. Using the chinas and crashes seperatly are difficult for "normal" music due to thier dark tone and quick decay. Many times I use them seperatly for small intimate shows as you can wack 'em pretty good without them being to obnoxious yet getting the point across.
The bells and cup chimes come in handy for more situations than the stacks in normal music. I'll sometimes choose one or more to utilize, for example, as a substitute for the bell of a ride to give the music a bit of something different and/or unexpected. Using them for accents is nice. They come in great handy when the cover band I'm in plays some Tool covers...they're a must! Using all of them for ostinato patters is nice too! Having three opens up many pattern possibilities.
I've had them for a loooong time as I purchased them way back when they were first introduced back in the 90's. I understand now they're a special order but I have seen a few on e-bay from time to time.

Cheers.

yamaha stands are THE BEST there is. i've toured with every type of hardware known to man......the yamaha stuff is the ONLY hardware i've never had a problem with. i made the mistake of taking my older hardware this last tour and had NOTHING but PROBLEMS. booms slipping, tilters falling off, height adjustments coming loose, you name the problem, it's happened with EVERTHING but the yamaha stuff. that's why i like it.
the chinas are aaxtreme's.....15", 17", 19"

13" and 14" groove hats
21" groove ride
10" aa splash

yamaha stands are THE BEST there is. i've toured with every type of hardware known to man......the yamaha stuff is the ONLY hardware i've never had a problem with. i made the mistake of taking my older hardware this last tour and had NOTHING but PROBLEMS. booms slipping, tilters falling off, height adjustments coming loose, you name the problem, it's happened with EVERTHING but the yamaha stuff. that's why i like it.
the chinas are aaxtreme's.....15", 17", 19"
and a 12" aax mini.
13" and 14" groove hats
21" groove ride
10" aa splash
16", 18", 20" vault crashes
10" aax splash on top of alien disk bottom for "mini" hats
Speaking of your hardware, I noticed at the H.E. show that you had one stand on the right side of your kit with all kinds of cymbals and crap on it. Was it a conscious decision to put as much stuff as possible on fewer stands, or was that just the only way everything would fit?

Anyone ever heard of a four-piece kit? LOL... :D
I had a 5 piece for awhile... (BRX) I sold it so I could purchase and make room for my Masterworks that are on their way!

yea, believe it or not, I only have 3 tri-pods on the floor. one between the kicks that hold the toms, one to the left of a kick and one to the right of the kick. those 3 yamaha stands hold ALL that stuff!!! hard to believe.
of course, i still have the snare stands and hi hats, but all the cymbals and drums are on those three stands.

Wow, I've always known Yamaha to be sturdy, but wow, all that hardware!

I've also noticed you use the old yamaha gear. It's only a detail, but I prefer the looks of those old, centered tilters, to the new offset ones... (Yeah I know I'm a real perfection nerd!)

Haven't you considered using kickdrums with tom holders to put booms in them sort of like Raymond Herrera would do? I'm curious to know your answer to that one...

Cheers Derek!

Yeah man! Thats awesome! Beautiful kit!

I saw one of your drum vids from the studio recording with some death metal band... I think it was "Hate Eternal" and then I listen to a sound clip of you really grooving it! I was truely impressed!

Geat chops man! And beautiful equipment!

Hey man,

Jus want to say awesome kit - must be awesomely tasty to play (especially with those fusion wood tips!!! *rad tick of approval*)
And much prof to you and all of your band; you guys sound awesome (from your bios - keep in mind I have dial up lol) Good luck for all of you in the future, and congrats on the DT thing!
By the way, have you released your album yet? (sorry if the answer is blatantly obvious; unawears to me)

much rad

Thanks FizzyCola it's a beautiful kit, Sonor drums tend to wipe away the opposition in my opinion. The album is out and we are working on a new one now, it will be a massive improvement especially as i've written half the music on the new release ;) .Thanks again.

Hey drmrman,

That's some nice gear you got there!! I'll be damned if you play all of that with just one stick... LOL :D

I have a similar set-up, but I only use two crashes and one or two splashes. I'm trying to use less gear to force myself to be more creative with my co-ordination, so sometimes I play using only the hi-hat, bass drum and snare drum. Some of Dave DiCenso's fills are awesome -- his signature fill uses only these three instruments. T

I love DiCenso... his style is almost exactly how I'd be if I was that good. His and Virgil's...

Cool! Yeah I am playin a much more toned down kit now... 2 crashes, factorymetal cross, ride, 2 chinas and hats because Im getting a new kit... Pearl Masterworks *should be here any day* and I am using most of my hardware and cymbals on that now...

This is the set up im going for with the MW!

you can see mine on my myspace in my pics. www.myspace.com/ecaptaincadaver if you honestly care to waste that much of your time. Its 2 24X18 kick drums, 10,12,13,14 rack toms, 16 and 18 floor toms a 6.5X14 snare and a 13'' picalo. I also have a selection of Zildjian cymbals. The kit is a Mapex Pro M in caramel fade. It's my touring kit. I also have a smaller Orion Kit in transparent black.
