View Full Version : Practice
When practicing do you get to bang around having fun or do you always stay focused on technical stuff? I can't stay focused on difficult exercices requiring deep concentration for more than an hour. I absolutely need to take a break or else I'll just play, not practice. And I do need this concentration to get to Virgil's level in drumming. ;)

you need to concentrate to get to ANY level of drumming..!!
I sit on the drums with a short term goal...be it increasing my double strokes/paradiddle by 2-6 bpms or doing indipendence...BUT sometimes i get too carried away and do a improvised drum solo on the spot! :p :D
It depends, cause if you see Virgil, You want to solo. If you wanted, you can tape yourself and then playback and think, "man thats slow". Only a suggestion

yeah a combination of intense stuff you need to develop and plain and simple goofing away on the drums especially on play along, jamming or 30 min drum solo will show sparks of creativity no matter what.
being spontantneuos on the drums live is quite a challenge though.

i find it hard to concentrate on hard stuff, so i'll take regular breaks and watch dvd's to get inspired
