I might head over to Vancouver....I live in Calgary which is an 11 hour drive from Vancouver...pretty long drive...but to see Virgil in action would probably (what do I mean probably, would DEFINITELY) be worth the trip...not sure, but I'm seriously considering it...I drove 4 hours to see a Bozzio clinic...and I'm much more keen to see virgil because all I've seen of his playing is the MD video...and I'm sure he's a much better player now than he was then

You're saying that you've NEVER seen Virgil play live?
I think you'll want to quit playing drums when you do. :)
I had a feeling that the UK would be a no go event. *smells armpits* have we done something wrong? :(
We are also in Europe too. :( Virg... whats wrong with fish'n'chips bro? :(
Ah well me.2, no one likes stinky armpits!:D
I'm waiting on a late addition to the list but if all else fails i'm off to Belgium through the cheapest low fare airline i can find!
Its a pity i dont know anyone there who will let me sit in on the soundcheck or something:(

Some women love stinky armpits Jimi,...Ones with no sense of smell dont care either way. ;)

Say hello to Inspector Poriot and dont forget those delicious chocolates and monastary beers they make over there. hmmm.... Im getting thirsty and hungry just mentioning them. :)
Safe flight and enjoy your time.
Hmmmm, haven't heard of "Poriot", sounds like that other famous guy Poirot!:D as for the smell and the armpits, the hole you're digging is getting deeper! you'll have to change your webchat name now;)
I looked into belgium and its a f**ker of a place to get to, no low fare flights except from dublin, maybe i'll have to choose somewhere else after all. But im going somewhere to see Virg, there's no question about it!!

Worth it for the beers and chocs!
Holland????? Lovelty time for a 'tip toe' through the tulips Jimi.
Cobhams doing a clinic in Germany in oct or november too. :(
I've actually got a midterm break in college the week before so i will look into going to spain. Barcelona is a nice city too!
How much will tickets for the actual clinic cost anyways??
Christopher

Shouldn't be that expensive. I don't know how it's priced in Europe, though.
I'm sure you'll find the right date to go and check out Virgil. What ever is closer to you.
Cheers!

Does anyone know if Karlsruhe and Cologne is far from Berlin???
Jeppe, will you come??

10-04-2003, 02:43 AM
Hi!
Karlsruhe and Köln (Cologne) are both in the west. Köln is a bit nearer to Berlin, but still quite a distance. I'd say about 400 km or more. (Karlsruhe is even more).
I think I'll appear in Karlsruhe, from Switzerland that's not that far, although not a walk, either...

I'll go to germany and/or belgium by car ... it's a bit far coz I live in the south of Austria. But Virgil is worth it. I hope to meet Jimi and some of you guys. Who of the European fans are going to clinic and where?
Ya, let us know who's going to what, for the moment it looks like jagdkommando, myself and justlikerock, will be at the belgium date.
Myself and jagdkommando hope to go to more though:D

If all goes well, I'm going to both holland dates, and the belgium date! I hope the Holland dates won't be too far away for me.. The last clinic I went to wasn't very expensive... I'd even say it was cheap! I don't remember the exact price but I think it was about 10 euro... a rediculously low price for such a drummer..
man I can't wait to see virgil play again!!

It's such a shame we're not allowed to film Virgil while he's playing... man that would be so cool! It's such an incredible experience seeing the legend live, and to have that on tape is really interesting.. I mean, the things that he does.. half of the time I just don't understand what he's doing!! but if you can see it time after time at home, it would really help in figuring out what the hell that dude is drumming!!
oh well.. pictures and sweet memories will have to do.. until then I'm really nervous and anxious to see Virgil play again!!

The kit virgil was using was a black pearl BRX, with his normal signature cymbals and a blend of HHX and AA cymbals. The pedals where Pearl Eliminators with blue cams and strap.

I have been to Amstedam too yesterday, Steel? is it you Robb.? Cool pics, it was amazing to see how Virgil plays...again
About 1,5 years ago I was sound-engineer/roady during three gigs when Virgil was here in holland with Tony en Philip, so i 'got used' to Virgils drumming (NOT!!) it is still really amazing how that guy progresses (still)

Hi there .. I just returned from belgium and holland drum clinic.
I met Jimi (very nice man) ... and we had the chance to talk to virg before and after the clinic, got signed posters, sticks and were allowed to play on his kit.
We were allowed to see him warming up on both clinics and took pictures form warming up and the clinics.
Jimi will soon give a detailed review - his english is much better than mine.
At the moment I have some thoughts that come to my mind
comparing the two clinics:
The drum solos very totally different - I was surprised. Thery were not similar - in no way (sure he played some of his typical rythms but the structure was different).
The one on saturday I liked much more (my personal opinion).
he played much more fast rolls and hand feet combinations over the toms than he usually does. e.g. the rythms he usually plays with left hand on hihat, right hand on toms and double bass drum he played very long, very fast and not only once ore twice .... he played it more often during one solo and in different ways.
he played a lot of rythms I never heard from him before
I met him last year and he improved a lot since then
on saturday he played ataraxia, qfactor and invisible man
on saturday there was a screen behind him showing him from above (very cool)
on saturday he seemed to be more concentrated - but he's always amazing!
playing on his kit was really nice ... the configuration of his pedals
is amazing (I have the same pedals but his were much better to use)
He remebered me - YEAH!
althaugh he was very busy he allowed us to remain there during the warm up periode and sound check and took some time to talk to us. Moreover we set up his kit together with him
I took very very good pics of warm up, soundcheck and clinics (both) ... amazing pics of twirling and rolling on toms etc.
I'll send that pics (high res) to Chris ASAP
It was nice to meet JIMI, ILSE and the guys who organized the clinics.
Of course the best thing was to meet VIRG himself.
Last thing: I took my girlfriend with me. She wasn't very impressed my the videos and cds because she is not used to drums. But when she some him live SHE WAS TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY, because she could never imagine that a human being could be able to play THAT LOUD AT SUCH A SPEED and such clean.
That's it for the moment .. jimi will explain the whole story - he is really a nice person ... I like him much - it was worth and an honour for me to meet Jimi!
Greetinx from Austria,
Martin (after 26,5h driving in three days)
Yes, each clinic was totally unique, i am compiling the reviews (two), they are quite long so i will use subject headings so people can get to the bit they want to read immediately. they will be up very soon!
All i can say is that it was really great, a dream come true, and myself and JGK are delighted Virg was able to make time just to say hi (he's a seriously busy man!)
i asked him several questions to do with his book, the new VD.com relaunch etc. so please check out my review in a day or two:)
thanks to Chris, Lisa, Ronald W. and others at Slagwerkrant, those at Key Music for being SO nice and helping us, and Martin (great great guy:)) for driving me everywhere!
Let's not forget Virg too! (who has improved phenominally, AGAIN!!!)
Cheers and talk to you soon:D
