Lb for Lb, DW makes the most consistent and well-made pedal on the market. Also, check out Pearl, Tama, and Yamaha. I use the new Flying Dragon dbl pedal with strap drives (It is interchangeable with choice of double chain or strap drive(ooh, kinky)) and it is very smooth, and no hassles, from putting the pedal away to tightening on the bass drum, to adjusting beater angle and height. Very good pedal, it costs a little less than DW, but still has great quality. Check it out. Dont forget comapnies like Gibraltar, Mapex, or Sonor...you might even like Ludwig pedals, too! Just try them out at your local drum store, see what you like.
I like Axis, but the price, combined also with the feel of the pedal is...different...it takes a little while to get used to...also, I can buy a snare with a Yamaha pedal for the price of the Axis dbl pedal...I can work on my HANDS as well as my feet! But thats just me...maybe!
Peace!
thanks a plenty...will check them out..then comes the problem of pedal settings(sigh!)

Most here are going to suggest the Pearl. It's a very good pedal. Between it or the DW 5002, you can't go wrong.

It is hard to say which pedals are the best, but the Axis pedals as well as the DW 9002 are in the top row. I never played one of them so I can not tell.
But I know that the Pearl Elimintator for shure offers the best relation between price and quality. For a relatively low price you get a lot of adjustment possibilities.
The only negative thing about the Eliminators I heard was that the cams do not hold very good after about a year of usage.
But as the P1002 has about the same features without interchangeable cams it is perhaps one of smoothest pedals and at the same time with a very low price.
In the end I have to admit that there are so many good pedals: Sonor,Axis,Pearl,Yamaha,Premier,TAMA
All these brands offer good quality I think. Under these pedals the features are slightly different but they all have to be smooth, fully adjustable and durable.
Finally it is a personal and financial choice!!!!

Great pedals that are time tested, I know you can't go wrong with DW or the Iron Cobra. I hear Axis is great, but I've never used one. I borrowed the Eliminator for about two months. It's an outstanding pedal but I don't know how it holds up over time. apparently it's good enough for Virgil.

I played cobras and they felt like trying to push a rock into the ground. They were Very solid and they had a wide board which I liked but I didn't care for them.

maybe i am just lame....but i like dw 5002...no weights....light spring tension...the only thing i don't like is that the linkage from the slave pedal http://www.dwdrums.com/pedals/5000/inset-universal.jpg is garbage.....but unlike most of you guys, i dont play all that much double bass...so yea

CobraMan, you only paid 375 for your pedals? where do you live? I paid 600$ for the gibraltars im using now and I just bought a set of axis for 650$ which i thought was a deal, cause the closest music place to where i live (which is 4 hours away) was selling the axis pedals for over 1000$!!!!!! canadian prices by the way!

I use DW 9002 and they're simply great... not much cheap (in Italy they cost 850 €!!!)... Also Pearl Eliminator have a great response... and I've never played with Sonor Giant Steps so I don't know what to say about it except for... they look... strange, to me!! maybe innovative... and Thomas Lang knows how to demonstrate they're good!!
.... and once ur used to it...there is no substitute...
So....what you're saying is that when you get used to playing an Iron Cobra, you suck if you're forced to play on something else? That doesn't sound very good, nor does it sound like a sign of "healthy" playing....

No one's really mentioned the Flying Dragon direct drives. I have the double pedal and I love it.

For me is the best choice with Sonor giant pedals. Other pedals are good too, but for me is Sonor the best. But merit of problem is in feet:-).I think, using different pedals is only guestion of adapting our feet...

Im using the Axis Pedals right now, they are best described as different, really different, if you go from Axis to chain driven again it feels like your learning to play all over again!
