I'm still waiting ... it should have been arrived already ... but it didn't. Hope to get it tomorow (maybe to Austria it lasts longer than to Ireland). I'm looking forward to seeing it :)

@Jimi: is there a drum solo?

Not specifically everyone stopping and leaving Virg play till the cows come home (or back on stage in this case!)
The songs are long so the order of soloing (within a song) usually is Tony, then Patrice, Bunny and finally Virg before a restatement of the theme and the outro.

It's shot at the Musician's Institute.

Tracklist:

1. Dennis
2. Madeleine
3. One for Stern
4. Tempermental
5. CAB

Hey Jimi what is the overall quality of the DVD, picture and sound specifically. Is the performance real good, what is your take?
Is there a certain site where someone can check out the DVD before ordering. Thanks for the info.

Best regards Kirk

only 5 songs?

jimi

zoso: The songs are long (none shorter than 10 mins im sure)

There is only a limited availability and i don't know if many ordered it yet. The quality is great, it's a standard DVD, pro-shot, so you can expect that kirk.

As for what i think, i enjoyed 'Dennis' the best for the moment. i'm new to CAB so i can't judge if it was a smokin set at all, sorry. I enjoyed it and it was worth getting in my opinion, ok?

Does anyone know why Dennis Chambers left?? I honestly wouldn't have listened to the band at all other than Virg being a member. i don't mean to sound Virg-ist!!!

It seems as if Virg was only a tour-member. See www.cabband.com ... Chambers is back!

Virgil is still doing gigs with the band, there are 2 at the end of the month at the Potato.

Jimi does the video contain footage of both Virgil and Dennis, you mention Dennis playing or are you talking about the new CD. Just trying to be clear on everything. Thanks for the info.

@kirk: Dennis is the name of the song i was talking about, it's only Virg and CAB ok?

@zoso: It's $35 incl. p&p.

@jagdkommando: thanks for the info, looks like this will the only CAB DVD i'll ever get, if Virg ain't sticking around, you know?

I have not heard them nor do I know the style of music. Could someone please inform me?

I suppose it's kinda Jazz fusion, in sense that there's complex melodic soloing by Patrice Rushen and Tony Macalpine. (I don't like Bunny's solos, he does this one figure up and down the bass WAY too much!). It's not typical Jazz at all just using elements and just being technical. Sounds like jargon but it's good. The highlights for me are CAB, One for Stern and Dennis.
Hope that helps :)

Got to get that DVD.
Everything that Virg is playing on is worth buying.

@those of you who got the DVD from Emlink.net, did you have trouble of any kind, with payment, shipping or anything?
I just want to know if it's safe to order it there before I do.

No problems, Its $35 dollars whether you're American, European or whatever. I had no probs myself but its taking a while for some packages to get places. I've often ordered stuff from America and i'd get one package really soon and the other would take AGES! (Esp. if you're really looking forward to it! :D)
They will send you an email if they need to clarify any info anyway ok?

And you're right, it is worth getting, Virg plays well as usual and its great to see :)

Finally I got my DVD now ... I'm very impressed, because Virgil plays solos within very slow parts ... so kind of "slow" solos ... always perfectly together with the rest of the band in the background ... very cool - and ANOTHER Virgil Donat :).

However the volume of the toms is too little. You can't hear them very loud ... the bass- and snaredrum you can hear very load, but the toms not ... that disturbs the solos of Virgil .. .because when rolling over the toms you hear ... "mmmuuuuaaaaahhhh" instead of "rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr". We all know Virgil's power ... but on the toms he "seems to be weak" ... of course he isn't .. that was the mistake of the sound engineer - I can't understand such things ... they should take a drummer like Simon Philipps as sound engineer.

If you all can get a copy ... DO IT ... I expected a more non-professional-made DVD .. but the sound and picture is really excellent and about the music I don't have to say anything because Virgil + Tony together are always the best.

Regards

Sorry, i can't copy the DVD, send emlink an email and ask if you can send money/cheque or something like that. Audiophile and a good couple of other places accept payment these ways,
