Well essentially it's achieved by doing this:

Right Right Left Left Right Right Left Left

With your feet...or vice versa (LLRRLLRR). I'm sure you already knew that much though hehe. A lot of guys use a slide motion in wich you slide your foot up the pedal to get a sort of double hit (I'm sure you've done it with your right foot before). It's sort of a flam sounding thing rRlLrRlL.
Some people use the heal toe method (I'll let you find info on that) and ther eare probably dozens of others. Sorry this isn't much help.

Also note that the muscles in your legs are much bigger and heavier than those in your wrists, forearms, and fingers (whatever grip you use) and so it will take practice practice practice to get them to be as precise.

Also remember that Virgil plays double on this configurations most of the time

RLLR RLLR ... and so on.

So if you remove all the left stroke it's basically a bass drum samba beat if played on 16th notes rythmn. He mentioned during the clinic [ wow a day i wont forget] that he likes this approach coz of the certain accents or whatnot he get using such double strokes.

So it's more like...

RlLr RlLr RlLr RlLr .

Accents on all eight notes and regular notes on all off beat 16th notes. WHUULLLAA!!! hehehe. It was dream of mine way back to develop this configuration and Virgil just simply showed and blew me or us away, hehe.
