A 'Flam Roll' is any combination of double stroke roll, with a flam attached to the downbeat. This is one of my favorite interpretations of double stroke rolls. When referring to the video, you will notice how I accent either the last stroke or the first stroke of the roll. Also notice how you can create interesting sounds by combining the different rolls (similar to the 5-9-11 exercise), and by also introducing other flam strokes.

In the following examples, I accent the downbeat of the roll. I tend to do this mainly at faster tempos. (Refer to Video). I also like to give the last note of the roll a shorter value than in the traditional interpretation (above) which will usually change the meter to an odd time.
