Nevesis,

I saw the Quicktime video. I can
tell you're inspired by Virgil. You
have a real command of the trad
single-stroke. Excellent. Nice fluid
motions and a cool cross-stick
touch in the air.

It looked to me like you were
doing singles down on your feet.
They were kept up nicely. You've
been working.

That HH clutch - there are some out
there that won't give you as many
problems. Maybe it's a set of pliers
that you need.

I'd like to see more video from you
perhaps doing some rhythmic pat-
terns or combinations.

Keep up the work! Virgil and Dennis
are great insprirations for all of us.

Hey dude! Thanks for downloading the video. My drop clutch broke a couple days ago I have to go get a new one so it was giving me some problems. But anyway, I have alot of more video of me playing lots of groove stuff and rhythmic combinations and such, I just usually put up a video camera on my tripod and let it roll as I play. I will get some more video up asap!

I play open-handed and have

Let me know if you have trouble again.

You got a lot going for you, Nevesis. I
think that younger drummers really have
and advantage against guys like me.
There's so much available to you.

You have a good future ahead of you.
Cover all the bases and you'll go far.

Thanks for the kind words man, I appreciate it. Im having one problem with your video. I downloaded it but it says im missing a codec in windows media player. Anyway you can make that a quicktime file or an mpg? I usually can play all types of WMV files.

Thanks again man for the positivity!

Sorry, Nevesis.

Do you have Windows Media Player 9?

Here's the link to Windows Media Player 9, Nevesis:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e0175119-9a5b-44c3-b1de-9b2a9aa6cff6&displaylang=en

This will probably handle it. It is superior to WMP7
and below. I hope it will do it for you.

On the positivity side, if I don't have anything
positive to say, I try not to say anything. With your
video, it's obvious that you have talent and have
worked hard. I want to encourage you as much
as I can as a fellow drummer, albeit older one.

peter

I changed the link the WMP9, Nevesis.
Try the new one in its place. Sorry for
all your trouble on this.

Christopher

Peter, you might want to make sure that you synched up the audio properly when you encoded your video. I don't know what system you run on, but the video that I'm getting is not in line with the video.

It also depends of the quality you set it as.

Just thought I should let you know.

Cheers!

peter

Christopher,

I have never had this quite right
in my setup. I'm encoding with WMP
Encoder 9. After creating the video in
.avi, I convert the file with the encoder.
I select Windows Streaming. That's
what I get, which I know is not the
best but right now, I don't seem to
have an alternative.

Thanks for the heads up and let me
know what my options might be, if
you know. By the way, the software
that I used was Veo Digital Studio.

peter
07-28-2003, 04:26 PM
Christopher,

Thanks. I just got off the phone with
Veo (manufacturers of my camera) and
they told me that this camera is limited
in this regard and that its intended
use was for simple messaging, where
visio-audio synchroncity was not a
real priority. That's why I can't get
these videos up that notch. They
suggested getting a video card and
use my camcorder, plugged into it, to
get the quality I'm looking for.

Bummer...

I will have to get that card and hook
up my camcorder someday.

I hope you could get a general impression
of what I was doing, though and could
dig the sound of it.

Sorry, guys. :(

Christopher

Im pretty sure that it's not your camera that's the problem but it's maybe the software. There is a lot of software out there that is freeware nowadays that will let you at least encode at a pretty good rate.

I personally use Sonic Foundry Vegas for pretty much anything that is video. I use After Effects for special effects and motion tweening, etc.

Here are some quick links:
http://www.sonicfoundry.com/products/default.asp
http://www.adobe.com/products/aftereffects/main.html

You can maybe get some trial downloads or something to try them out. They are very very worth it.

Nevertheless, I DID get the idea of what you were doing on your video and I dug it! :)

Cheers!

Christopher,

Thank you for the links. I'm going
to try the Vegas LE Trial and see
how it goes. I'll let you know.

I'm glad you liked what I did in my
doodle. I come from a different place
from most of the guys here, perhaps
with a few more years (like Kirk:D)
but with the same appreciation for
Virgil and his craft. Were you able
to make out the twirls I copped
from him? He gets under your skin.

Thanks again.

peter
07-28-2003, 07:36 PM
Well, I downloaded Vegas LE, Christopher
and so far, I can get it to see out of my camera
(that's all it is; not a Camcorder) but I can't
get it to take video. I select CAPTURE VIDEO
and nothing happens. It says no video was
captured. On the other hand, I can capture
still images. They said it may not be compatible
with my camera if nothing else happened. I'll
try it again.

Christopher

Wait a sec though, I thought you had a DV? (Digital Video Camera)

If that's the case, Vegas should pick it up fairly well.

Christopher,

Above you said:

"Wait a sec though, I thought you had a DV? (Digital Video Camera)"

"If that's the case, Vegas should pick it up fairly well."

Actually, no. All I have is a simple computer camera, called the
Veo. It sits atop your computer and takes/sends simple images
to the CPU. I think this is my problem.

I'll need a special video-capture card and have to start using my camcorder if I want to get higher quality videos, I think.

Thanks again, guys and Nevesis, keep playing!:D

Ability is all you need and the willingness to
share it with others in a compatible way. I
look forward to seeing guys like Nevesis move
on and work with bands.

There's a lot of talent out there.

I am humble in real life, but I also know I have a talent which is pretty good. Plenty of people out there better then me. Stay tuned for some new video clips coming with studio recorded audio.

Peter,

I got your vid. runs a bit sticky... Also, the recording is a bit loud. It sounds like popcorn... This has nothing to do with your playing as I know you can burn... I'm sure when you update your equipment, things will be better...

Evan,

How have you been my man?! I wasn't able to download your vid for some reason, but I already know it's off the chain! Keep workin hard my friend!

Don.
