Hey whats up everyone. I was sent here from a friend over at the futureproducers.com forum but I seriously need some help with my drumming.

I learned drumming the "pick-up" type way. I basically grew up watching drummers in my church and just hopping on a set and practicing. I never really became techincal with it such as: learning to read drum music, learning the rudiments (but im working on that one), learning the definitions and so forth. But my huge problem is with my foot speed. I really need help improving my foot speed on the bass drum. I play single-bass drum and single pedal also. Maybe you guys can answer quick questions. Thanks!

1. Please explain the "Heel-Up", "Heel Down, and the "Toe" Technique.

2. What exercises can I do to improve foot speed?

3. Whats the best way to position me feet and body posture when Im playing.

4. Whats the deal about sliding your foot "up" or to the "right or left" in order to achive that fast double hit on the bass drum.

Lastly.....(hopefully)

5. What were the techiques you used in order to achive maximum performance on the bass drum.

1. Heel up: you just raise your heel off the pedal and play with the ball of your foot, this is also called the "toe down" technique
Heel down: plant your heel on the foot plate of the pedal and play just by moving your foot up and down at the ankle, but your heel never comes off the pedal

2-5: Just do a search in the forum and you'll find all the answers you need. We have all kinds of bass speed and control threads

I agree with Kinetic. To get a nice bounce it works well to slide your foot up the pedal and just let it dribble on the head, you have to perfect it though. Practice Practice Practice!

One VERY basic way to build up proficiency on the kick is
to perfectly mimic everything your hands are doing on the
snare drum. Start slow and pick the speed up gradually.

Do singles and doubles, for starters.

THEN, against the 4's above, do 3's (triplets) below.

Do this everyday for 30 minutes to the metronome.
Start as slow as you need for it to be perfect the
first time and then pick up. Be perfect.

On top of everything that already has been said, use the "Search" function. I assure you, there's tons of topics devoted to all aspects of bass drum playing/technique. Try the magic of "Search" :D
