November 5th 2002 - Best Hard Rock/Metal drummer for 2002!

Slagwerkkrant Drum Magazine has awarded Virgil "Best Hard Rock and Metal Drummer for 2002". You can check out their website here (mostly in Dutch). Here's a message from Virgil :

"To all the Slagwerkkrant readers, thank you for your vote, and I look forward to touring Holland and Belgium again soon!"

Finally, a lot of pictures have been posted in the image gallery. A very, very big thank you to the fans who took pictures from Virgil on tour, you know who you are! It only makes the gallery grow and set another good memory from that performance or clinic. Pictures are always welcome, so please keep sending recent ones in!

 

October 31st 2002 - 2 dates added...

Happy Halloween to all! - 2 dates have been added : 5th of Nov. 2002 clinic at the Guitar Center in Atlanta, Georgia and 8th of Nov. at the Baked Potato in Hollywood with Tony MacAlpine and Phillip Bynoe.

A BIG thank you to all the fans who have sent in comments about the string of shows for the Donati/MacAlpine/Bynoe Trio in Europe! It was a great tour indeed! Everything went absolutely great!

The long awaited Planet X tour is coming up in November. Hold on to your hats!

October 10th 2002 - Last Minute European Tour Changes...

Just to avoid confusion on some of the dates regarding the European Tour with Tony MacAlpine and Philip Bynoe, there have been a couple of changes.

On 2 of the dates (Italy and Holland), there will be a 'double feature' type gig. Virgil will be performing a clinic earlier in the afternoon later to be followed with the regular scheduled gig with MacAlpine/Bynoe. There has been some date changes as well. The England gig is cancelled and some other ones have been added.

September 5th 2002 - Virgil to tour in Europe and more!

First things first, Planet X's "MoonBabies" has been released on August 13th courtesy of InsideOut records. There was quite a bit of confusion with the release dates in North America (original September release for MoonBabies) and Virgil was quite surprised to see fans lining up at the clinic with brand new copies of MoonBabies! A lot of fans have been talking on the Planet X messageboard. Click here for a free account to discuss "MoonBabies" with other fans.

In other news, Virgil will be doing a couple of Pearl clinics in Europe in late September, early October. Check out the tour dates for more info. There will be a few clinics while Virgil will be touring with Tony MacAlpine and Philip Bynoe. More will be added when they are confirmed. For the time being, only the October 19th clinic date in Holland has been confirmed. Stay tuned for more!

Planet X "MoonBabies" has been released in Europe. It will be later released in Japan on August 21st and sometime in September for North America. Stay tuned for more on this! July 8th 2002 - News by the Ton!

Well, it's done! As many of you might of noticed on the Official Planet X website, the upcoming "MoonBabies" album from Planet X is finished and is scheduled for release at the end of July. Stay tuned for more information on OFFICIAL release dates. However, if you still haven't listened to the latest sound clips from "MoonBabies", be sure to head on over to xplanetx.com to sample the newest tracks!

Virgil is back from the Gambale, Fierrabracci, Donati tour in Australia. A lot of the fans that happened to catch the shows are reporting that there is a possibility of a DVD/Video release of the performances.

There will also be a DVD release of the Ultimate Drummers Weekend in Australia featuring many drummers as well as Virgil! Though the release date is not very concrete, you can be sure to be informed from virgildonati.com on this upcoming release.

Furthermore, Virgil is currently working hard in the studio for the long anticipated Freakhouse album. The band is working with producer Warren Croyle. Be sure to check out the official Freakhouse website for more info.

Also, Virgil completed Joel Hoekstra's newest album and it's sounding totally amazing! Click here to visit Joel's official website.

There will be a live release of Ring of Fire's "Burning in Tokyo" performances. It will be released both on CD and DVD simultaneously in Japan on August 21st. The DVD, according to Mugenkyo management, is to include a bonus Ring Of Fire Members Interview, Multi Angle options and a booklet with live photos. The CD contains bonus message from Mark Boals, a new unreleased song, as well as performances of "Interlude", "Extended Solos" and booklet with live photos.

Finally, there are a few tour dates added namely the ones with Bunny Brunel, Tony MacAlpine, and Patrice Rushen.

 

June 1st 2002 - Gambale, Donati, Kennedy tour update...

Tom Kennedy has been forced to pull out of the upcoming Australian tour due to illness. Ricc Fierrabracci will be stepping in to replace Tom during this tour. The tour dates remain the same.

In other happenings, Virgil will be performing 4 clinics in the end of June in New Zealand at the Rockshop. You can check out their webpage here for information on tickets and venues. Virgil, Tony MacAlpine, Ricc Fierrabracci, T.Lavitz, Bunny Brunel and Patrice Rushen will be playing a few gigs at the Baked Potato in the month of June as well. Check out the tour dates for the proper lineups with the correspoding dates for more!

May 22nd 2002 - Live From Oz Released!

April 23rd 2002 - New Clinic dates and Power Trio Tour!

There will be a few clinics (along with Billy Sheehan on bass) going on during the month of May as well as a couple of shows with Tony MacAlpine and Freakhouse. Check out the Tour Dates page for information.

Virgil will also be touring in Australia this coming June of 2002. It will consist of the Donati, Gambale and Kennedy Power Trio by Vorticity. Featuring Virgil Donati on drums, Frank Gambale on guitar and Tom Kennedy on bass. There are 8 scheduled dates in the tour dates section. April 5th 2002 - Live From Oz released in Europe!

Planet X's "Live From Oz" has been released in Europe courtest of InsideOut Music. North American release will follow on May 21st and Japanese release is scheduled on the 22nd.

Not only that, but the official Planet X website has also relaunched after a short pause for reconstruction! Go and check it out!

April 2nd 2002 - Virgil's Premier Gen-X kit on sale on eBay!

You can now bid on Virgil's used Gen-X kit over at eBay. This is the same kit that was used on the Steve Vai G3 tour last year. This is really a TRUE collectors item. As a bonus, the winning bidder can get Virgil to autograph the component(s) of their choice.

March 21st 2002 - Australian POWER TRIO tour in Melbourne and Planet X news!

A couple of projects/possible dates to be mentioned :
Virgil Donati, Frank Gambale, and Tom Kennedy will be performing as a POWER TRIO down in Australia on June 10th at the Ultimate Drummers Weekend in Melbourne. The festival is scheduled to be happening for 3 days. Shortly after that, this same power trio will launch a small tour in Australia. Stay tuned for some confirmed tour dates!

Some of you (maybe all of you?) may have noticed the Planet X Website Pre-launch. The site is undergoing a complete overhaul of all links, music and information. It is still set to launch very soon in the month of March.

There is some news about the long awaited "Live From Oz" CD that will be available in record stores worldwide around the 3rd week of April 2002 (20th-24th). It will be released under InsideOut Music for the U.S. and Europe, JVC/Victor in Japan, and Vorticity Records in Australia. There should be some confirmed dates in the first weeks of April. Stay tuned for that!

Also, "Moon Babies", Planet X's second release, should be out sometime in June. The mixing process has been a tough one! It WILL be worth the wait! Planet X will be definately be back to rock your town!

January 28th 2002 - Massive News! - Virgil signs endorsement deal with Pearl!

After a long association with the Premier drum company, Virgil recently parted ways with them and has signed a new endorsement deal with Pearl. As a lot of people may have been aware, Virgil has been endorsing the Pearl Eliminator Pedals for the past two years, and now the switch to Pearl drums, seems like a natural progression. It's expected that the benefits of this deal will accrue to the ever-growing Virgil Donati fans.

"I'm thrilled to be playing Pearl Drums, and I'm excited by the possibilities that this relationship will open up. My association with Pearl will give me the opportunity to get out there even more!"

We'll announce the new series that Virgil will be using in detail in the near future. The gear section will be updated soon after.

January 9th 2002 - Finally! A New Year!

Happy New Year to all! - It's been a long time since an update and a lot of people have been busy! Virgil is back from the European Steve Vai tour which went absolutely amazing! Thank you to all the fans that emailed in with their comments about the show! 2001 was a pretty packed year, as well as a weird one since Sept. 11th, but all is past now and it's onward and upward! - There will be some updated pictures from the tour coming very soon.

In other news Freakhouse will be performing their first show of 2002 at the Troubadour in West Hollywood on Monday the 14th.

Also, Ring of Fire will be touring Japan and China. There will be possible European dates as well! Check out their newly redesigned website for updated information on the band and members.
